Thanks guys...I think I solved the problem,. I replaced the distributor due to cracked housing and worn gear. Van is running alot better. Its a little sluggish when I first accelerate but smooths out when get over 30 mph. Any ideas ? Oh and i cleared the code and drove it about 100 miles and no codes now.

I assume that there is battery voltage on the pink wire at the MAF sensor.

Check for vacuum leaks. You may have inadvertently bumped a vacuum hose when you where doing a tune-up.

It actually is saying the air flow is low at the MAF passage. This can mean a clogged air filter or clogged ductwork. Your engine RPM may have changed from the tuneup. If this is the type of engine with the added spout to the distributor, you may have not reconnected it after setting timing.

A bad groundwire will also affect every engine setting overall or from the single badly grounded sensor. You may want to do an Ohm test on the plug-in wires for the MAF to its ECM. You may have a broken wire which would affect the readings.

Just to illustrate, if the MAF produced a fictious 1 volt at normal flow, then the timing and fuel enrichment are set for that RPM. But if the MAF reads .5Volt, it may enrichen the fuel or adjust timing for an engine running 3000RPM. This would flood the converter with more gas than was being burned and needed at idle and result in a Sulfur smell.

The low range problems could be in the distributor springs for the counterweights. Depending on what you removed the replacement distributor from, it may have different distributor springs.

You might be able to find a Speedshop with the machine for curving the distributor to match your engine, as in 2 barrel versus 4 barrel, or heavy van versus Camaro with same CID engine. To an extent you can check the timing advance visually with a timing light, especially a timing light with the RPM meter built in.

You may be able to get the better timing light to use from the Tool loaner programs at Autozone, Advance or Oreillys.

Car sputtering badly. Codes P303 n P102 show on diagnostics and have replaced both parts associated with these codes,PLUS, new fuel filter, engine still sputtering badly.

Hi,

I hope I can help with this. This could mean the engine spark plugs or plug is the issue. Also check the exhaust pipe. White smoke indicates a coolant issue. Check your coolant reservoir. Black smoke indicates a Fuel issue. Blue is an oil issue. Also, speaking of your spark plugs there very well could be a misfire.

the code P303 could be cylinder 3 misfire
P102 the mass air flow sensor which is on the air filter cover. It's an electrical part and is sensor. Please check these and let me know.

My cylinder is misfiring on my 2000 gmc jimmy

replace fuel filter, air filter, spark plugs, wires, distributor cap /rotor, if you have one. new oil with your filter ? just thought I'd ask, have a auto parts store pull code to see why your service engine soon light is on. this will tell you what sensor needs replaced, I'll bet its the oxygen sensor !

1999 Chevy G-30 utility van code p-0174 , cleaned then replaced MAFcleared code, back on 50 miles later, found vacum leak hose off vac. ball, code cleard 50 miles light back on,

what size engine do you have in the g-30 van. is it the plastic plenum. if it is there are rubber o-ring seals that go bad all the time and will cause the p0171,p0174,p0172,p0175 these are all lean codes also check for fuel pressure to make sure it is up to specs.
have you changed your fuel filter lately this can effect fuel trims.

Service Engine Soon Light - What causes this light to come on? I already checked the gas cap and it did not make any difference. The van had a tune up about 2 months ago (changed plugs, air filter,fuel...

THERE IS A SENSOR OUT OF RANGE THAT IS WHAT MAKES THE LIGHT COME ON YOU NEED TO PUT IT ON A SCANNER AND THAT WILL GIVE YOU A CODE FOR WHAT THE TROUBLE IS

1999 safari van 4.3 6 cyl. has a service code PO

P0301 is a DTC code that indicates a misfire to cylinder one. It could be a bad spark plug, spark plug wire, rotor and cap, a dirty fuel injector, or the worst a bad head gasket. Cylinder 1 is the first cylinder on the drivers side, towards the front. Start with the simple and check the spark plug wire and add fuel injector cleaner to the gas tank. Good luck and hope this helps you get you van running 100% soon. If that did not help, then your going to have to do a tune up by replacing the spark plugs, wires and rotor and cap. You can get all the parts you need at Auto Zone and they can give you the step by step to get the job done with common tools in under 2 hours of your time. Keep me posted, be glad to know you got your van running 100% again soon.

More than likely it's the distributor. They have a tendency to build up corrosion and rust and have personally went through the same situation three weeks ago on a suburban. Check to see if you are getting spark from the distributor first. Have the ecm in the distributor checked at Oriellys for free. It's under the rotor and has two 8mm head bolts with wires plugged in at each end.
