You are going to need a new transmission or get that rebuilt

Testimonial: "Confirmed what I was already afraid of. Although I took it to a trasnmission shop and when the tech was test driving it he said it was a normal, strong transmission shifting gears. So maybe what I consider a "slip" really is normal? But I dont think so .... going for a 2nd opinion, thank you!"

SOURCE: 4l60e slips in 3rd and 4th

There are to many things that can cause this problem, best thing to is go get the ECM scanned for DTC codes at a transmission shop or Auto zone or Parts Source since they scan for free.
The ECM should have DTC code in it's memory on how the transmission is Performing and have the Transmission line tested for Fluid pressure.
Good luck and hope this helps. Oh and also ways check with more then on transmission shop if there tell you that you need a new Transmission,
It could be a simple as the transmission filter falling off causing the lost of transmission fluid pressure. Check the transmission fluid too.

Check both O2 sensor(s) and catalytic coverter.. P0420 means catalyst below threshold. Also check the sensor at the transmission and solenoid.

SOURCE: I have a chevy venture transmission slip

You can try a fluid and filter change and see if it helps. But from your description, it sounds like it's
time for a rebuilt(or used)transmission. Sorry to be
the bearer of bad news. Good luck.

What are the causes for sienna transmission slipping

You have a failed transaxle--- your done

That will be a $3,500 repair

I do not have the time here to explain the answer why

The main reason transmissions slip-- is that no one changes

the trans fluid at all or every 2 to 3 years (that is a death sentence)

The fluids main job is to remove heat

It breaks down after two years & so goes your your slipping

clutches that get fried

90 % of all transmission problems can be prevented

If you drive correctly & most folks don\'t

If you change the fluid & no one does

If you stop using it when you first notice something & have

it checked out,you have some hope it will go for a few years

Transxles only go about 85,000 miles

Most all new transmissions have known faults, the manufacturers

do nothing about it ,that gets resolved with updates in the field

or aftermarket, not at a dealer though- seldom

Your vehicle is 14 years old

I would guess your on your second trans

Only rear drive last for 18 years or 200,000 & not

many-- as they never see that new fluid

There are NO Sealed transmissions & the dealers have

nothing special going on there, on any subject

You never need a dealer- unless you care to part

with extra money

Is my rebuilt transmission already slipping?

If you had the transmission built at a reputable shop, take it back to them and point out the issue. Most shops will warranty a rebuild for up to a year and/or 15,000 miles. It's possible they didn't run the car through a 'relearn' cycle so that the transmission can sort out shift points and speeds based on engine rpm, load, vehicle speed, etc. Ask about that, too, when you bring it back.

The mechanic tells me my clutch is slipping and needs rreplacing 85,000 km. How do I know if this is reliable info? I feel nothing

TEst for slipping clutch is travel about 30 mph. press clutch, shift to 3rd, rev engine pretty high and release clutch, at the time of clutch release, floor throttle. If the engine continues to race, clutch not grabbing porperly, if the clutch works properly, the engine will be slowed and engauged.
You can always get a 2nd opinon from another shop.

the 85,000 mile coutch worn out issue dependes entirely on driving habits of the operators.

slip and grab in your transmission put some lucas transmission slip-stop in and run in park position at 3000 rpms for 5 min then change into reverse and see what happens

If the rpm's go up and the car feels like it is slowing a little even though you haven't moved the gas pedal a bit with your foot then you may certainly have a transmission that is slipping. Usually a slipping transmission is most noticable at first when speeding up to merge into traffic or after the transmission is fully warmed up. If you feel it is slipping you should have it checked out as soon as possible to prevent further damage and the risk of being stranded on the road.

My transmission is slipping, and went out, but then started driving again. It has 85,000 miles. Could it be something less serious than the transmission?

Probably not. When your tranny starts slipping like that it's usually a sign of it getting ready to go out on you at any given time. You could also check the level of your transmission fluid because that could also cause slippage as well. Good luck.

Transmission slipping. does not appear to be shifting properly. replaced ecm. got tcm from jeep grand cherokee same engine (4.7L). notice significant burning/smoke after driving exhaust manifold. not...

U are going to need to overhaul the transmission here, the smoke is the trans overheating from excessive slippage i suspect.code for wrong gear ratio's mean the input and output shaft speed are out of symc for the gear the trans is in, the 3rd or 4th gear is the usual codes, this sometimes is caused by defective speed sensors but most times the trans is slipping and the TCM detects that and sets a code
