Run your tests before you start buying your parts. verify that your fuel pressure is acceptable. a defective fuel pressure reg., clogged fuel filter, tired fuel pump, fuel injector, loose or damaged wiring to the injector or coil, maybe water in the gas or too much fuel cleaner/additive.

SOURCE: On a 2000 Mercury Marquis, do you need to remove

The fuel rail can stay in place. Loosen the 7mm headed screw that secures the coil pack and loosen and rotate the coil out. The rubber part of the coil allows enough movement to get it around the fuel rail.

SOURCE: HOW TO REPAIR AIR CONDITIONER 99 MERCURY GRAND

The best answer that you can get depends on how mechanically inclined you are and how bad your problem is on the car.

If you are lucky, you can buy a A/C gauge and minimum hoses and refill the system at the low pressure fill back by the firewall around the black oblong tank with the hoses on it. You follow the instructions and add Freon until you get a steady pressure in the correct temperature range. Too much is as bad as too little. On Fords, I have replaced the Low pressure switch first and been alright with the remaining Freon.in the system.

If you are not lucky, you may have to add oil to quiet a noisy compressor or you may have a bad electric clutch or leaking hose or component. There is a neat ultraviolet kit with leak detector, uv penlight, and enough juice to do 4 tests. It is available at Autozone. But you still have to fix the problem when you find it.

If your system is open, degassed, and you have to refill it you can rent a Vacuum motor to prime the system , you can do it at Autozone. It takes a significant deposit for the machine and then you get a full refund when you return the machine. Oreillys may have one too.

If you have friends or coworkers, they can tell you about the bad or good places for this service. It is really an unknown. About all you can look at is the Labor cost per hour. Good Luck

2001 mercury grand marquis reading code p305 misfire, spark plugs and coils changed

If you changed the #5 Coil then the code was wrong

You get lots of wrong codes on a ford, as a bad coil
spikes the pcm when grounding out to fire the coils
secondary side

Try putting the old coil back & walking the new one to
another cylinder, may take many days & many miles of
driving to get it fix,but better than a shop guessing, because
they hate fords

I have a 2004 Mercury Marquis. V8 4.6L. I have a Car MD which I used to determine the engine light on codes The codes refer to changing the #1 igniter and all spark plugs. My question is which is the...

You change spark plugs every 60,000 miles or
3 years

Car MD etc ,doesn't tell you to change plugs, that is silly

They wear, but never fail to fire.

Have you even looked over the task at hand?

You don't have to remove anything but the plugs,
unless you have COP ignition, then you remove the
coil first.

#1 is on the front right side of a ford
Doesn't matter how the engine is positioned

I need to know what the stock compression pressure in psi should be on a 1991 mercury grand marquis 302 5.0L, I dont want the ratio, I need the psi. What was it from factory?

This engine offered a 4-inch bore, 3-inch stroke and a compression ratio of 8.9 to 1.

each cylinder should have the plugs removed, and each cylinder should have atleast 150 psi, with no more than a 10% difference between the 8 cyl .

most engines period will cary atleast 90 to 180 psi depending on the number of cyl.
