Question about Cars & Trucks
Try Autozone.com and register your vehicle for free. You then will be able to print or download the chassis wiring diagrams and powerbox layouts. With these items you should be able to trace the wiring.
I am concerned that the wiring burnt up before a fuse broke. I would look at the powerbox wiring for a defect or the chassis wiring for a defect which would allow unrestricted power to the MAF.
You would want to test with the battery disconnected and use an Ohmmeter to find out what grounded when it should not have grounded. Otherwise you will burn up more wiring if you do not fix the defects before restoring power. Your MAF may have gotten wet and shorted.
Check out these 2 sites. AboutAutomobile.com will show NHTSA complaints about common car defects which may list your problem. And you can report your problem to the NHTSA on this site. The second site is car-parts.com which is a collection of Salvage yards which ship directly to you for a used wiring harness.
I hope my solution is helpful to you.

There is no full wiring diadram for this model. All the schematics are divided into the various electrical systems on the car. There are around 50 charts to make up the set. Perhaps if you let me know what system you are interested in, I may be able to help.

SOURCE: Hello, 2004 Ford Escape XLT
Hi, below is a picture of your MAF sensor. There are 6 pins visible in the connector. Does your sensor have only 5 pins? Maybe one has broke off. The second picture is the wiring diagram for the MAF/IAT assembly. The IAT is the thermister on the right side of the diagram and uses the pink wire with a black stripe and the orange wire. Is this what you needed?
