Is this a Ford Windstar, what year?
If it cranks good but won't start, have a helper crank it while you check for spark at the spark plugs, if spark everywhere, use a gage and check proper fuel pressure. Also, check fuel injector pulse. Any applicable trouble codes?
if you disconnect the wire at the sensor or down from the sensor were you can get to it the gage should register empty and if you disconnect the ground it should register full. if nothing happens then the gage on the dash is bad, if gage moves the fuel level sensor in the tank is bad.
Your problem sounds like a dirty, blocked or faulty gauge sensor which is inside your fuel tank. google search or find a service manual that will tell you how to remove the fuel tank to acess this sensor.
Either there is a short in the fuel sender wiring or the sender in the tank is bad.The actual gauge is rarely bad.Good luck.
Else The float affixed to your fuel pump in your gas tank is stuck.
It tells the dash you ALWAYS have a full tank. You have to drop the tank, PB Blast/WD40 the float, get it to drop down. Finally Your unit in the tank is bad. Pull it out and move it up and down while someone looks at the gauge. If doesn't work, buy a new one. They are not that expensive.
a fuel gage if grounded out gose 2 full look 4 a bare wire grounding out someware or un plug gage and see if it goes 2 empty if it dose replace sending unit good luck
hi this will probably be the sender unit in the fuel tank you will have to remove it then replace, it sounds like the float has stuck at top, to test, locate the wires to the fuel tank and pull one off, and see if the gage goes down, if it does its the sender unit if it does not its the Gage itself...hope that helps
slap the top of the dash while turning key from on to off without starting motor.. hope you don't have 2 tanks it may be full of water . if so don't switch tanks !! run it the one that works . siphon some out of the problem tank into a glass jar to see if you do have water in the tank , remember gas floats so get that hose to the bottom of the tank.. was i help ? leave feedback . thnks Jay
sounds like an " OPEN " connection to the sender in the fuel tank, but where that open is, is the question. I would start by checking connectors under car to tank. Hope this helps
Sounds like your fuel level sending unit is bad. This is a common problem with these and my 190E is doing the same thing. They are very easy to replace. If you decide to do it get beck to me and I will walk you through it.
