Sounds like you need a new ignition switch. Any auto parts store should carry the part. Pretty straight forward to change, take off the cover to your steering column, there should be maybe 2 screws to unscrew, then you just unplug the plug and switch the part and put the screws back in, and finally put the cover back on.

This usually happens if your steering wheel is in the rightmost or the leftmost position. Try wiggling the steering wheel when pulling out the key.

2000 pontiac grand prix the ac blower stopped working we replaced it and still doesn't work it just comes on one in awhile. after replacing blower motor, then power door locks stop working replace

All these problems do sound as electrical of course but ecerything that you have mentioned is all on separate circuits which is odd. More than likely the blower motor situation is the resister. The window problem could be a number of things but I can tell you that all the wiring goes through the main drivers swtich so it could be just that switch but of course you would need to test before you just go out and but one but it is a common problem. The lights could be several things as we;; but would check the ambient light sensor which is located up in the center dash near the light that flashes for you security. You car didn't happen to get wet on the inside ? In any case I hope this helps.

TRY TO WIGGLE THE SHIFTER AROUND THE PARK POSITION WHILE TRYING THE TURNING THE KEY IN THE CRANKING POSITION, IF THE CAR ONLY STARTS IN PARK THEN TRY REPLACING THE SAFETY NEUTRAL SWITCH LOCATED ON TOP OF THE TRANSMISSION ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. IS THIS A 3.1L ENGINE??

Hi Dave, It's Bob Johnson again. This time I have a problem with my 97 Pontiac Gran Prix SE. The key won't turn to unlock the steering and let me start the car. The key has never been quite right...

Hi Bob,

I'm really glad I was able to help you with your T-Bird. I also appeciate the repeat business!

You may have a dilema if you cannot get the key to turn. I have the instructions for removing a lock cylinder that turns, But it is possible that you may have to do a lot more diasaasembly and drill some things if you cannot get the cylinder to turn. I have tried to put all the information you might need into a single PDF file. Please click the following link to download the file: Gran_Prix_Lock_Cylinder.pdf

Please note that this file will only be available for for download for 3 days, so be sure to save a copy to your computer for future reference.

Also, I thought I would mention that if you use new keys, you will have to reprogram your PassKey system to recognize the new keys or your car will not run. You can do this WITHOUT any special equipment. I have included the instructions on how to do this in the PDF.

Let me know if you need any further instructions or information.

Regards,

Dave (dttech)

2004 Pontiac grand prix gtp won't start- fully

You need a new starter solenoid. It is essentially a heavy duty remote switch that is activated by your ignition key switch. The solenoids get stuck or don't conduct well after 6 to10 years.

Code P0442 on a 2000 grand prix

That means that there is a fuel evaporation leak detected in your fuel tank. Generally this means that your fuel cap is loose- go tighten it and see if the code goes away after driving your vehicle for awhile. The problem can also be holes in the evaporation hoses...but not likely.
