go to autozone .com they have site that will help you right away with componet locations and truoble shooting and how to fix it all you do is enter your f 250 on how to fix it top left of there site you will be happy frm hoggharley@comcast.net

it is located on the right side of the motor, in the trans area. Actually in the bell housing.

When you look at your distributor ..you will see wires leading to it ,take off rotor and cap ,disconnect your battery ....unplug wires ....to the distributor ....remove the ignition modual ....replace it ....usually has two or three screws to it ...it's black usually in color ....

here are illustrations of the CKP (crankshaft position) sensor in 2.3L and 3.0L.

Note: In the bottom of the 2.3L drawing says Trottle Position (TP) Sensor, this is wrong, It should say CKP Sensor.


2.3L Engine


The Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor is located to the left of the crankshaft pulley.

3.0L Engine


The Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor is located just behind the crankshaft pulley on engine block.

The 2005 ford freestyle has two sensors in the gas tank, Witch one would i change if i got a po463 high input.


code p 0463 refers to fuel tank level sensor --high input ===causes --wiring short to positive --fuel tank level sensor ---ECM
remove a wire from each at a time to isolate the sensor in question
check the wires for a short to the sensor or in a connection ( water etc)

Yes, your Ford has one.
They are available in car parts stores, and on the internet.
E-bay offers them from about $ 14 to about $ 30 each.
They may cast a bit more at the store or at Amazon.

Hi Rusty, There's two links below showing the position of 2005 Ford Explorer Crankshaft Position Sensor and the 2008 ford edge camshaft sensor location. It seems like they're all in the same position, I hope this helps.....CHEERS

Needs crankshaft position sensor but I cant find it.Where is it and how do I get to it?


Crankshaft Position Sensor Removal & Installation 5.4L & 6.8L Engines To Remove:
Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  1. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Battery ground cable
    • Accessory drive belt
    • A/C compressor electrical connector
    • Position A/C compressor aside
    • Crankshaft position sensor electrical connector
    • Bolt and the sensor
To Install:
  1. Install or connect the following:
    • CKP sensor torque bolt to 89 in. lbs. (10 Nm)
    • Crankshaft position sensor electrical connector
    • A/C compressor and electrical connector
    • Accessory drive belt
    • Battery ground cable
6.0L Engine To Remove:
Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  1. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Battery ground cables.
    • Crankshaft position sensor electrical connector.
    • Bolt and the sensor
To Install:
  1. Install or connect the following:
    • CKP sensor torque bolt to 8 ft. lbs. (11 Nm).
    • Crankshaft position sensor electrical connector.
    • Battery ground cable

How do i install a crank angle sensor on my ford 1997E250 4.2L V6


FREE FROM ME TO YOU!!! I HOPE THIS HELPS YOU!! Sensor, Crankshaft Position (CKP) Removal
  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  1. Remove crankshaft position sensor (CKP sensor) (6C315).
    1. Disconnect the CKP sensor electrical connector.
    1. Remove the (A) CKP sensor shield nuts and the (B) CKP sensor shield.
    1. Remove the (C) CKP sensor bolts and the (D) CKP sensor.

  1. Install crankshaft position sensor.
    1. Position the CKP sensor.
    1. Install the bolts.
    1. Position the shield.
    1. Install the shield nuts.
    1. Connect the electrical connector.
