You need to replace the gas gauge sending unit in the tank. GM has a lot of problems with this.

Ran fine, shut off. Came back out, turned over but not start. Had jump started twice but put in gear and died. Question: I know low on gas, can this effect anything?

Possibly a fuel supply issue. Will require a fuel pressure tester. Could be in tank pump or a bad fuel pump relay. In a quiet environment, turn key on (not start position ) and listen if you can hear the guel pump run for 1 or 2 seconds.

Sounds like a bad switch if wiggling it around causes the gauges to jump around.

It has 2 possible solutions 1) fuel sending unit is going bad which the tank has to be dropped to change, 2) you have a bad cluster panel. Hope this helps

2008 sonata fuel gauge jumps up and down

The fuel pump ran dry without gas and now it has a fault. Unplug the battery after you fill it all the way up, then reconnect it. This should cause it to reset and work properly.

You probably have a bad sending unit for the fuel level in the tank. this would cause the gauge to be erratic when the level is below 1/2 tank and the float is moving around much more than when full. The oil pressure gauge problem could be caused buy a loose wire connection or a faulty sending unit.

Gas gauge jumping around

Gas gauge jumping around usually implies fuel level sensor in tank is going bad...Usually if the gauge in dash is going bad will read empty or at various positions depending on fuel level in tank..Electrical short problem in gauge usually affects other gauges in cluster

Fairly common problem with GM vehicles. The sending unit in your tank has a small circuit board that an arm is attached to which moves up and down according to your fuel level. This circuit board and arm are not making good contact. Unfortunately the only good solution is to replace this part.

Gas gauge

Sounds like you have a bare or broken wire earthing out on the chassis/body Trace the wires from the tank back to the engine bay and check that the wires are intact.

Gas gauge doesn't work it jumps up and down don't know when I need gas

Inside the tank there is a small ellectrical unit that slides up and down with a float to tell you how much gas you have this unit has ceased to function and needs to be replaced. This repair should run you somewhere around 3-5 hundred dollars.

ps please rate my answer if you would.
Thanks
