When an engine runs it builds up gases within. Cars are built with a vent to allow gases to escape from the engine, so that they wont build up pressure. This may have been a contributing factor. Also, if you have over filled the oil, that would help in building pressure within the engine.

Excessive crank case pressure. engine built up pressure and blew valve cover almost all the way off, cracking it in several places

Your engine should have a Positive Crankcase Ventilation or PCV valve on it to prevent this type of thing from happening. While I am not familiar with you engine, you should be able to locate a rubber line running from your valve cover to the air intake system. It may be part of the oil fill cap or a separate valve. It may be a separate piece then you can test it by shaking it. Inside is a metal stopper that should flop back and forth very easily when shaken. This is probably plugged. They can be washed out with gas but it is best to replace them on a regular basis, as you can see.

2004 Hyundai Accent would not start after it had warmed up. Subsequently it would not start at all but the valve cover blew off.

That sounds like a timing/ cooling system issue. The coolant sensor would adjust the timing etc. Your tech would have to scan the car & check the live readings (HOT & COLD) & check the emissions. Put all the pieces together & solve the puzzle

While driving the vehicle last night the egr valve exploded. replaced it late last night. drove it today and the same thing happened. car needed towed. what will cause the egr to explode and how do i fix...

EGR stands for Exhaust Gas Recirculation. If the EGR valve exploded, then there is most likely a restriction in the system. You may need to remove the valve and look for a build up of carbon or burnt oil. the process may get time consuming as you may need to disassemble parts of the engine.

I have a 2002 grand marquis,140 thousand miles...i change my oil on the regular,i take good care of the car..my problem is on my last oil change i noticed a slight tapping noise like the valves where...

a knock sensor is basically a resistor and a spring, and what it does is it reduces valve ping. Valve ping is when the fuel is not properly burned and tries to explode before the valve is fully closed and it will make a pinging noise when under load or at higher RPM. If the sensor is bad it can cause detonation, detonation is when the fuel explodes before the valve is closed and can cause a cracked, or exploded piston, bent valves etc. Your problem does not sound like that of a bad knock sensor, predominantly you will only hear the "ping" under load and not at idle and if it was bad your check engine light should be on. this sounds more like a rod knock. change the oil again and use only AMSOIL and an amsoil filter, amsoil is proven to last longer than any other oil, 600,000 miles without a change, or a filter change.
