Question about 1994 GMC Safari
After about 4 or 5 months of replacing the alternator and belt they start to go bad the van will start to show battery Gage as reading below 10 almost in red then it starts to just stall when put in drive ??? please help?
You said the alternator and belt. If both have to be replaced every time I would be looking for an alignment issue. Pop the hood and look down the side of the belts from the side of the truck. Do they look to be straight or is there a slight bend? Use a straight edge if necessary to get a good look. You may need to shim the alternator to get it straight.
If the belt is wearing out then it's probable that it is pulling harder on one side of the alternator pulley creating undue stress on the bushings (not bearings) inside the alternator. This would eventually cause them to wear uneven and throw everything inside out of line. Hope this helps.

Sounds like the belt has loosened up a hair, Just not pumping out 14 amps at idle, As long as the battery stays charged, and the charging system works, not to worry. The dash board will go crazy if the alternator starts to fail. Keep an eye on it.
