SOURCE: 2002 monte carlo will not charge has a new battery

When the engine is running fast idle, the battery voltage should read 13.5 to 14.5 volts if the alternator is delivering charge to the battery. If the old alternator had a shorted diode, the very high current from the battery back through that diode will burn out what is known as a fuse link which is located within the wiring harness and it will effectively disconnect the alternator output from the battery. The battery end is connected at the starter terminal where the positive battery cable also connects.

On some of the older style GM's you can take that brown wire and cut it and take the end leading from the alternator and hook it directly to the hot terminal on the alternator and just leave it hooked up and it will work. But I have ran into the occasional problem where leaving it hooked up will drain the battery when the vehicle isn't running. Hope this helps..

Testimonial: "I fixed the problem - the terminal at the brown wire was corroded - after cleaning and recrimping - everything works - thanks for the heads up"

Battery on my 2010 sonata reads 12v. but car will not start

First put a full charge in the battery...It takes about 13.5 volts to properly start you car due to starter load..Your 12 volt battery will show 12 volt no matter the state of charge..you must have it load tested...meaning how many volts the battery is putting out under load " starter engaged " a weak cell will cause failure of this test.. any of tne auto parts stores will test it for you...good luck

My 2003 Bravada has "battery not charging" light, but car starts fine. Auto Zone tested battery...Fine. Said it was alternator, but how do i know?

Suing a volt meter check to see what the charging voltage is at the battery with the engine running. If you see more than 14 volts than the alternator is working. If you see less than 13 and most likely you will see 12, the alternator is not working. Next shut off the engine and make sure there is 12 volts on the large cable/terminal on the back of the alternator. If there is replace the alternator.

2000 chevy silverado. alternator problems. start truck and meter shows about 11 to 12 amps for a few minutes then goes up over 14. Did this for several days. today started and went right to 14 amps then...

amps or volts
11 to 12 amps indicates nothing but if it is volts then it indicates that the alternator is not charging the battery
Battery voltage is 12 -13.5 volts and when charging is 14.5-14.8 volts dc
the rest of your statement indicates that the alternator or voltage regulator is faulty and you should have the charging system checked by an accredited auto electrician

Need owners manual for Century model 87151 auto battery charger

For car, do not set to DEEP charge.

Just set the switch to 12v or 6v to charge your car.
If your car has 12 volt battery, then set it to 12v.
Clip RED Cable to Positive on battery.
Clip BLACK Cable to car's GROUND of the car.
Plug in the cord to AC Outlet.

2001 ford explorer sport wont charge

I'm not sure if you have all of the info you need to go forward with this.
The battery may be rated for 800 amps but could have less than 12 volts if the alternator is not charging it.
It could have a dead cell which would keep it from holding a charge.
You would need to check the charge of the battery with a volt meter, then see if the alternator is charging at 14 volts when the engine is running. The battery should be at least 12 volts with the engine off.
The problem could be in the wiring from the key switch or dash gauges back to the alternator.

1992 Plymouth Voyager stops charging when engine warms up

unfortunately the alternator is only a part of the charging system and it should be tested by an auto electrician not a parts shop
replace the alternator and then take the vehicle to an accredited auto electrician for a charging system check charge rate should be 14.5-14.8 volts DC at around 1500rpm
they can check the alternator out put , voltage regulator or if the regulator is part of the ECM they will be able to test that as well especially when the system is hot as that is when the problem occurs

My battery light flashes and then my tc light is on with what looks like a wrench beside it pontiac montana

Sounds like a bad alternator. GM vehicles are notorious for failing starters, alternators and fuel pumps. If your battery light is flashing, your alternator is not putting out enough keep the battery charges and keep all of those electronics running. take a volt meter. You should get anywhere from 13.8 to 14.8 volts with your engine running and about 12 volts with everything off. Take the vehicle to your local auto parts store for a free charging system test. Advance auto parts can load test the battery and charging system.

I have a2001 Saturn SL and the battery light came on,Ireplaced the battery and had the Alternater checked but the battery light stays on. Advance Auto Parts said the alternater is not chargeing

Battery light usually means the alternator is not charging, get yourself a multimeter, select Volts, put red probe on positive and black probe on negative while the car is running, it should read above 13 Volts, not higher than high 14s, if it reads 12 volts or lower while engine is running than your charging system, alternator mainly, needs attention, any decent mechanic can check this in 2 minutes.

Battery light is on and it says charge...is it the alternator or the battery just needs to be charged

Its the same system to the light. You could take the car to Sears or an other large auto parts store and ask them to check the chargeing system. They check it for free. Or if you have a volt meter, with the engine running check the volts at the battery. It should be from 12-14 volts. As long as it says 12.5 volts up to 14 volts then your alternator is chargeing and could be you battery is bad.

When i try to start my truck after 2 times the battary will be drained what should i do

A battery in good condition with proper charge will last more than two failed attempts at starting, your battery sounds to be defective or at least in need of a deep charge befroe continuing, if the battery is more than 3 or 4 years old , it's probably time to replace it... try a new battery if your current battery fails a amperage draw test, take to a discount auto parts store for a free battey analysis...please rate my help. thanks...
