It works fine when driving but set at ideal it will slowly get hot. Like mentioned thermostat has been changed, it works better after the thermostat was changed, it got hot all the time. I can't remember if the water pump was changed when the 90,000 was done. Will try to find out from the guy that did it.

Thank you. I'll check that out.

Here is an update on the problem:

    1. Had a Check Engine Light come on a few days ago too, had it diagnosed. That
was simple it was the Gas Cap.

    2. Ran a diagnoses on the cooling system. Found it to be the the Fan Module & the
fuse. Replaced the fuse, and tried it with the same results, it gets hot at Idle and
fan does not come on. We bought a repair manual for our car. According to the
manual the Fan Module is on the Turbo Engine, which our engine is not.

    (a) As far as our engine the manual talks about, checking the fan motor with a
fused jumper cable. Will pick them up on Monday and check the fan motor.

    (b) If the fan comes on it says one of the fan relays (Low Speed and High speed
relays) are bad and to have a Dealership or qualified mechanic look at it. Seems
to me that the diagnostic test ran should of shown that the Fan Motor is bad or
one of relays, not the Fan Module, since our engine doesn't have one. What do
    you think?

Yes, I am going to email him with what I found.

Thanks! However, we changed the thermostat, because it over heated all of the time that helped, then it started overheating only at idle.

I found out from the dealer what the Fan Module is, it is the fan shroud, the fan motor and blades. It is expensive too, $377 and only available from the dealer. A little above my level of maintenance any more, I am going to have it fixed by someone else.

I would suspect the thermal switch in the rad. It turns the fans on and off. Driving this time of year would easily keep everything cool enough so the fans didn't have to turn on. This would be why the problem only shows up at idle. Hope this helps.

The motor is gone and the switch could be gone too.

I would replace both to be on the safe side.

SOURCE: my 2004 chysler pt crusier wont backup

I'm not sure if you have a manual or automatic transmission. Sometimes the manual transmissions have trouble going into reverse and you need to hold it in while letting out the clutch for it to engage positively. If you have an automatic transmission, check the transmission fluid level and see if it smells burnt or abnormal.

Post a comment with a few more details and we will get back to you.

Thanks,

Tim

SOURCE: How do you change antifreeze

You have a drain plug on the botton of the engine. Your filer is right there as well.
Changing the coolant there is a plug on the botton of the ratiator. Lefts side (Driver) right on the radiator lower tank. Make sure you refill coolant correctly. Get all the air out of the system Run the heater at full blast.

2006 Pt Cruiser fan keeps running and drains my battery

Chysler vehicles are notorious for having recalls. Call your local dealer with your 17 digit vin and see if there are any active recalls on for vehicle. One call possibly fix this problem. If not, you need to check your engine temp sensor, the electric fan relay, and fan module. One of these switches and sensors are telling the fan to come on because the engine is warm and needs to be cooled off. You will find most of these sensors and switches near or close to the front of the motor close to the fan and top radiator hose. You can also retrace the wiring harness from the fan motor back to most of the sensors that control it. Hope this helps.

How to change a water pump for a 2006 pt crusier

you must remove the timing belt cam gears and rear timing cover recomend replacing timing belt tensioners and all idler pulleys at same time, (this job takes me 4 hours and i remove the radiator condensorassembly to make it easier) you could damage you engine if you dont install your belt correctly.

Have a 2006 PT Crusier that rough idle, and check engine light is on with code for #3 cylinder misfire. Replaced spark plugs and wires. Still have engine light on for #3 cylinder misfire. Seems to be fine...

I would start by having your codes cleared. If a fouled plug was the culprit, the pcm may not have reconized that it was fixed.

Try running a bottle of sea foam through it. You could have a sticking fuel injector.

As a last resort , have a compression test done. A crack in the clyinder head could also cause this issue.

I hope this gets you started :)

My horn quit honking on my 2006 chrysler pt crusier..

find the horn ,it should be at the front possibly behind the bumper ,run a wire direct to it and see it works ,if it does work then its the wiring in the steering wheel ,but as this vehicle no doubt has an air bag then entrust this job to a garage because if you get it wrong the air bag will explode ,expensive job to say the least
