Dear Fixya team,
My Mercedes C230, 2002. Every time I try to fix something in this car I find myself in another problem. Now, the Ashtray does not open except after I push hard with my hand on the cover which stopped to go back to its location in the time I do not want to force it, trying to reach to it I moved the shifter cover which in its turn did not go back as it was, it moves the time I move the shifter. Is there any solution to this?
Follow this video and replace the ashtray, or repair the astry. there are parts on the side that can become damaged and top the easy close and open to stop working.

SOURCE: Release hood on 2003 c230 Mercedes
Pull the red lever under the drivers side dashboard-about where your left knee would be, sitting in the vehicle. The hood will pop up and a tongue will protrude through the front grille. Pull this tongue and at the same time, lift the hood.

Just had the same problem.
The fact the key had not been used in many years the locking mechanism was basically stiff'
Applied copious amounts of wd40 kept turning the key back and forward while applying pressure and release to the boot lid did the trick

I have '05, both should be similar:
1.Cabin air filter is located above battery on right side against firewall.
Release three latches, remove filter housing, slide old filter out (housing is flexible), insert new
one, reinstall housing.
2.Engine air filter is on the left side of the block (follow intake hose). Cover is retained with six screws
(six point star shape,I belive called Torox, bit/scredriver size 25). Loosen screws (don' t pull all the
way out of the cover) lift cover , and remove old filter. Insert new one, reinstall cover. DO NOT
OVERTORQUE SCREWS! Screw holes in plastic filter housing strip very easily.
Note: Intake hose is very flimsy, one on my car came apart and had to be replaced.

There is a switch on your hood latch. They get damaged sometimes when the hood opens and closes. look down on the latch and you will see the sensor with an electrical plug. There are two 10mm bolts holding the latch in. remove them and the sensor is in the latch.
