Need to know on 2.4 cam sensor how wires go my plug broke and wires fell out

I pulled connector apart nee to know in what order wires go back in mine are blue black and orange with strip

I usually don't tell this But, I am REALLY Busy right now. Call the Dealership Closest to you and ask for Service, Tell them you are a Mechanic and your Problem. They more than likely will tell you over the Phone. That is the Fastest way to accomplish this!

I may be able to figure it out but with the haynes not showing the codes which they will usually show the options for all models,I am not sure but will try.If you have a more basic model,not "loaded",the gray/black wire could be for a more loaded model which has a motor driven hatchback so I would like to know if yours is or not.Manufacturers commonly make a 'universal' wire harness,but depending on the model may not use it.You may have also seen it in fuse boxes where there are empty slots because the system they are for is not on your car.
The green orange may be the return for the first wire.If there is any way you could send me a picture of the diagram it would be helpful.There are a couple ways to do it without taking out the page.If you have a digital camera,take somewhat close-up pictures,at least so I can read the letters,maybe 4 or 6 sections,or just the particular section you are referring to.You can use a cell phone,it will be a little tougher,but you can TEXT the images to my email.Either way it is gmccarthy 86 hotmail com.If you are in the USA and want to chat,let me know and I'll send you my # as I do not have free long distance,hopefully you do.Good luck! I own a '97 GMC Safari, I don't know if yours has the same connector to the fuel pump, but mine has a round electrical plug just in front of the gas tank that has given me a lot of trouble. The fuel pump starts, comes up to pressure, then the vibration of the engine starting causes the plug to lose a connection, and the engine then dies. I pull on the plug, and it runs normally. If you have that plug, pull it apart and pay close attention to the center pin.

ask them to pull the connector pins out of the socket and solder the wires back into pins-install back in socket--- or replace them with aftermarket connectors altering the order so they can't be plugged in wrong-cheers Denny

Reminds me of when a friend of mine had a car with carbon tracks on the distributor cap. I wiped it clean and it worked perfectly. Are the plug cables going to the correct cylinders in the correct order? A hanes service manual actually put the wrong order down in a mustang manual.

  • P0344 means that the Camshaft Position Sensor is having intermittent disruption.

  • Check the connector real well and the wires for breaks, cracks, bulging wires etc.


  • I think that aftermarket sensors are worthless to be honest. I recommend OEM sensor only because aftermarkets often don't work. So if you bought a CAM sensor at your local parts store then I would take it back and order from Chrysler.

  • A chipped tooth on your CAM sensor can cause this code as well because the sensor reads rotation. A missing tooth of the CAM will give an in the rotation of the CAM.


  • So the first this I would do is check the crankshaft position sensor as a fault from there can effect the CAM sensor too.

  • The crankshaft position sensor is in the engine block behind the alternator / just above the oil filter. See diagram below. Clean it real well and check the wiring.




  • Also make sure you clear the codes after the repair of they will remain. A CAM light does not usually just go away after fixing the reason for that code.


  • Now check the wiring and connector to the CAM sensor reall well and repair as necessary. Now clear the codes and see where you stand. If that light comes back and it is the same code then get an OEM CAM sensor and clear the codes again.


  • If that light comes back again then you will need to pull the timing cover and inspect the CAM itself for missing test.

I nee instructions on a cam sensor removal for a 1998 ford contor with a 16 vale 2.o over head cam engine


The camshaft sensor is located at the back of the head on driver side. Remove the wire,unscrew the sensor,screw the new sensor in the head and put the wire back on the sensor

The camshaft sensor is not in the back on the 98 4 cyl its right in front. All you need to do is take off the 3 bolts on the top of the heat shield and pull it back a bit and it will be right there.

I have a trouble code of P0340...i changed the camshaft position sensor the vehicle still shows this code...and won't start what's my problem..and how do i solve it..no other codes show up on the OBDII....


On that model,it could be the timing chain has jumped,or broke.If this is so,you need a mechanic to replace the timing chain,it is a deep job.Take the cam shaft sensor back off.Look in at the cam,and have someone crank the engine over and over,and see if the cam is turning.If the cam is turning,this will tell you the timing chain is not broke.But it does not tell you if the chain has jumped.Lining the crank at top dead center,and looking at the cam reluctor will.The cam reluctor will line up with the cam sensor pretty much perfect.If this checks out,then make sure the reluctor has not come loose or is missing.If I can help let me know.

Need location of both crank angle sensors


If your Max is 3.5 which it should be unless its 2001, than this Max has 3 sensors. 1 crank and 2 cam. Crank sensor is in the front of the bell housing, behing cooling fan, where engine and trans meet. than other 2 sensors are on sides of the cylinder head in both banks by the air filter box. They are 3 wire connectors and the cam sensors are bare to unplug and replug properly, so good luck. The connectors have these green slides, thast have to be pushed to unlock the connector, however when you going to replu it, you need to make sure, that the green lock/slide piece inside the connector slides back into position, or the sensor could unplug. You need to push the green slide and pull on the connector at the same time to unplug sensor.
