Question about 2006 Volkswagen Passat
Trunk will not latch on my 2006 VW Passat. Have tried to diagnose and resolve the problem myself with little luck. Tried fumbling with latching mechanism to diagnose problem with no luck. Currently have trunk lid bungeed to car to keep it secure but am unable to repair the problem.
Looking for insight if not a valid repair option for repairing the mechanism on the trunk to get it to latch.
I had this problem with an older vw. The latching mechanism was stiff and too slow to catch the post. Try generous amounts of lubricating oil such as WD40 and repeated moving of the mechanism with your fingers before adjusting the latch position with washers. It should be lined up and not need adjusting unless you have hit something.

Try putting washers under the bottom catch to lift up slightly maybe not pushing latch up to lock in place
