If you have your intake manifold over your valve covers you need to remove them. once they are off carefully disconnect as many hoses from the covers as you can and try to mark them so you can remember where they go. next you take your ratchet and remove all of the bolts from the valve cover. Take it off and get as much crud off of the surfaces that the gaskets seat onto as you can. next you take a tube of BLUE RTV and apply a thin bead to all of the surfaces that the gasket will seat into. Put gasket onto it's place on engine block, then affix the valve covers on top of that. Replace bolts and intake manifold if applicable and you are done. Note; follow instructions on the RTV tube or you will develop leaks all over the place.

valve cover gasket is like $20 and a do it yourself job, just buy a manual like a chiltons from an auto parts store. if it was valve cover, the smoke would be coming from engine, not tailpipe.
rear seal is in between engine and tranny, this would cause oil to leak on ground, but not to burn
if smoke is coming from tailpipe, your piston rings might be going bad. that is an expensive repair, but switching to synthetic oil may give you several more years of life out of the piston rings, synthetic oil has a way of soaking into bad piston rings and temporarily making them like new again, unless they are already too far gone.

sounds like your lower gasket is shot, and while under pressure its slowly leaking through a cracked gasket try getting gasket sealent and put on seal crack let it sit for a day or 2 it should obsorb in and fix the gasket that should probably do the trick

make sure they are tight
could be time for head gaskets
make sure the old gasket from the old filter came off the block sometimes they come off old filter and stick this causes a leak due to improper seal.

do me a favor and pull the sparkplugs out get a compression gadge and do compression tests on all the cylinders they should be within ten psi of each other if not yes you have either a cracked head or a blown head gasket
