Check fuse 24 in the interior fuse block. If that's good check the brake switch. There should be power on the violet/white wire all the time. There should be power on the green/orange wire when the brake pedal is depressed. If there is no power with the brake pedal depressed than the ditch is bad. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Thank you for using FixYa.com!

SOURCE: Mercury Cougar heater blower only works on high.

remove the trim panel below the glove box and you will see the blower motor, just to the left of it you will see a 4 wire connector plugged into the case. This is the blower motor resistor, this is what you need to replace.

SOURCE: can you bleed the water cooling system on 1999 mercury cougar

This is extremely important on some cars, for instance my BMW. 1. Have the car parked in a slight uphill slope. Make sure there is enough coolant in the expansion jar.
2. Start the engine and wait for the thermostat to open (upper radiator hose becomes warm).
3. Open up the radiator bleeding nipples slightly with a large screwdriver (bleeding nipples normally made of plastic with a '+* for a screwdriver to fit, at the highest points in the cooling circuit).
4. Allow air bubbles to fizzle out until you get a steady stream of coolant leaking out, use rags to capture leaking coolant.
5. Then close the bleeding nipples, switch off the engine and wait a few minutes for pressure to come down.
6. Open up the cap on the expansion vessel carefully and fill just below the "hot" marking.
7. Check levels again after a few miles and refill further if needed.

Done.

Check if the dashboard bulb is still okay, if so then change the fuse. you have to pull the dashboard to locate the bulb. all the best.

I have a 1999 Mercury Cougar. The low beams and turn signals don't work. I've changed the multi-purpose switch on the steering column and the relay in the engine compartment fuse box. The fuses...

Electrical troubleshooting requires at least a multimeter without it is almost impossible to determine the problem. You want to focus on the question "why". Not "where". So you find out why the bulbs are not lighting up when you activate the switches. First activate the low beam then measure voltage on the wires if it is getting any. If there is voltage you know it is the bulbs. In electrical problems you must have an open mentality meaning don't assume right away that all the those bulbs can't be out at the same time. If the bulbs are good then look for a black ground wire. Tap a wire to it to then momentarily touch it to the body of the vehicle. It the bulbs lit up then it is a ground wire not making contact. Don't look for where it it just tap another wire to the ground. Fixing electrical problem doesnt always mean finding where the problem is but correcting the problem is just as good or better since you would have a better ground connection vice versa.

The fuse for the stop lamps is located in the passenger compatment fuse panel (see picture of location below) The fuse you are looking for will be in the number 24 position (see picture of layout below). this should be in your owners manual if you have one. If you don't have an owners manual and would liike a copy, you can email me at csautomotivecars@att.net with your make, model and year and I will be happy to email you a copy at no charge to you. i hope this helps and good lick.

Brake lights not working not even the 3rd light in the trunk lid.

First I'd check the fuse. Then I'd check the bulbs. Then I'd check the brake switch located under the dash and operated by the brake pedal. Use a test light or multimeter.

Make sure your brake light are functioning properly. Some CC use the brake light circuit to release. If there is a bad bulb cruise won't work.
