You can switch sides ONLY because the tires will still rotate in the same direction they used to, now if you can get the tire store to do this is a different question.   You CANNOT safely change the direction that a radial tire spins once it's been driven for any length of time.
You have bent or worn out components in the read suspension, or at the least need a 4 wheel alignment.  When you get a 4 wheel alignment, they will be able to tell if it is just  an adjustment or unseen damage.  If they says it's damaged due to the accident, get them to put it in writing and go back to your insurance company and tell them the adjuster didn't catch this damage and get them to pay for the fix.  I mean by gosh, you pay them enough in premiums and they are responsible if you had collision coverage.

A knocking sound on my 98 vw passat engine and a ticking sound on the upper engine side - help

I fear the news is probably not good. Many Passats around 1998-2004 were badly affected by engine sludge even when oil changes were done regularly.

http://www.thecarconnection.com/news/1049827_settlement-addresses-engine-sludge-issue-in-audi-a4-vw-passat

These noises usually mean that oil starvation has caused an engine bearing to fail, and also excessive wear in the camshaft area. If the sump is removed the sludge (if there) will be seen.

Tire pressure for passat 2002

It is not so much the tire pressure for a Passat, 2002 as it is the tire pressure for a tire on the Passat 2002.

Only certain tires will fit on a Passat and VW knows this when they put the information on the door pillar, driver side in most 'editions' of the Passat. Same is said about what they printed in the owner manual and also the sticker that may be in your glove compartment.

All this information provided by VW is based on the tire that fits the Passat. The tire will have all the information you require molded into the side wall of the tire: recommended pressure, load range, temperature range and more. Look closely at the tire for this and lots more infomation including tire construction type, material and size.

I would have the 4 wheels alignment checked, if the rear is out it can be aligned by shims. any reputable alignment shop will know how to perform this. as far as the noisy tire goes it will need to be replaced to stop the noise. If the alignment is ok than the tire may have a broken belt internally which caused it to wear uneven
