Question about Peugeot 405
This isn't a clunk or a bang - it's a definite creak/grind which only happens when driving over bumps. Loud enough for people to stop and stare!!

SOURCE: I have a creaking,clunking noise
Try looking at the sway bar link on each side. If they move easily by hand then they likely need to be replaced. You can do a sort of self test by rocking the car up and down at the front fender tire well. If you can hear it clicking when you rock it, it is likely that sway bar link. Good luck!

There's a chance that the ball joints need grease. This should help, however once they have started to make noise like that due to lack of grease, they usually have gone bad. Replacement may be the only remedy. Hope this helps.

You need to rent the ball-joint removal/installation tool, a ball-joint removal fork, and a foot pound torque wrench (at either Autozone or Pepboys) and you need to borrow or buy a rack 3/8",1/2" metric sockets, I think a set of E-torks, a good size hammer, a repair manual (for directions and torque specifications), and a good jack and stands.
