SOURCE: 2000 dodge intrepid 2.7 sputtering, revs up

you need to ck some basics you could have a vacuum leak which would hide during warm up but cause havoc when hot,the leak would cause high idle then your pcm would try to lower idle to spec thru use of idle control motor causing surging idle ,also fuel pressure needs to be checked while acting up,may be more cost effective to pay for an hour of diagnostic.

SOURCE: where are the cam sensor and crank sensors located on my car?

Crank Sensor: Passenger side of transmission just to right and above the differential cover. Has 3 wires:

Light Blue/Dark Blue stripe - Signal
Dark Red - 8v supply
Black/Light Blue stripe - Ground

If the car runs or cranks, you can test this sensor by first checking for power on RED wire with key ON. Should be 8-9.5 volts DC. Furthermore, connect a dwell meter to the signal wire by probing the back of the connector. Dwell reading should be 49-51%. If not, its likely bad.

If you remove the sensor, you MUST replace the paper spacer on the end of the sensor or you risk damaging the sensor or even the torque converter drive plate otherwise. Also make sure O-ring is in good shape and positioned properly.

Cam Sensor:
Facing Engine, it is on the driver side timing case housing, on top of the round part, just to the right of the fuel rail pipe where there is a capped fuel valve.

Has 3 wires:

Tan/Yellow stripe - Signal
Dark Red - 8v supply
Black/Light Blue stripe - Ground

Testing is same as for Crank Sensor.

Make sure you hear the wrrrrr of the fuel pump with the key in the run position. The pumps in the gas tank and I had to take everything out of the trunk and listen over the pump access hole in the back of the trunk. The pumps seem to only last 60000-70000 miles.
I hope this helps you.

Hi! Its a possible PCM (powertrain control module) failure. The PCM is like a car's brain. Its working when you disconnect the sensors for it bypassed the PCM but once it is connected it fails. Try a PCM swap and see how it goes. Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa!

Code p0340 on 2000 dodge intrepid

it might be the cam shaft sensor it might be the crank shaft sensor the best thing to do is replace them bolth. but it does sound like it may be either one because if one goes out the other will still work but when starting the car it will take longer for it to read from either or the one sensor that is still working because they work together to tell the system to deliver the gas. im pretty positive that it is either the cam or crank shaft sensor

Vehicle stalls sometimes

could be either the cam sensor or crank sensor , but I would check the crank sensor first , this sensor will not cause a check engine light either

check the asd relay swap it with another like it. also check fuses and old car alarm if it had one.the cam and crank sensor will not affect fuel pressure. the cam sensor should not stop this car from starting. but the crank sensor will. good luck.
