Question about 2000 Buick LeSabre

2000 Buick LeSabre

I have a 2000 Buick LeSabre the security light, check engine light & gas cap loose light is on. I had a dx test done only stated that the cap needed to be replaced...replaced the cap & the lights are still on..I was told that I should by a cap from the manufacturer & have the battery removed & then plugged back in to remove lights. Should I try that 1st or just take the car to a mechanic? I don't really have a mechanic that I really trust. I've had alot of bad experiences w/them.

A factory fuel cap would be a good start. The other possibility is that the vent solenoid is stuck open. Ou can buy an inexpensive code reader for about $50 that will both read and clear codes. If the new dealer gas cap took car of the problem than the light will stay off after you clear it. If it was to the problem than the light will come back on. The EVAP system can be checked with a smoker. Any good shop that deals with these problems will have one. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Thank you for using!

I have a 1994 Buick the "Check Engine Soon" light stays on although it has been recently serviced, any ideas?

the check engine light covers about 60 different sensors. It could be anything from a loose gas cap to a head gasket. The best way is to have the scan done. Some shops do this free, some charge an hours labor. Personally, I'd go to WalMart and buy one to have. $99. This will tell you everything you need to know. Good luck

My car shakes at idle

You have to check for codes every time you get any
malfunction lights on your dash

These lights & systems have been there on all cars since 1983 some 30 year & we get a hundred of the same questions every day of the year

Then repair non code related problems

2000 Buick Lesabre has security light, check engine & gas cap loose light on?

I'm sorry you feel that way about mechanics but there are those that you can trust. I'm a diesel mechanic and have been in business in Australia for 20 years and I am disappointed to hear this sort of statement. However it is possible that what you heard is true??The high-performance engines today rely on the fact that they are a closed system. That means that any leaks in the system be they air or water or gas.
I know that many engines will stop if you remove or loosen the filler cap for the oil. Likewise if they lose pressure in the fuel tank they will have performance problems.
I would enquire around your neighbourhood for the name of a really good trustworthy mechanic and you will find or should find a good and trustworthy mechanic and ask his opinion.
With regards

The gas cap loose warning light keeps showing on my dashboard display for my 2000 buick lesabre. I t is secure and clean. How do I remove this warning?

My gas cap was broken in the center so I replaced it with a new one and the tighten gas cap message went out after a couple of hours driving.

If I left my gas cap loose and service engine soon light come on, how do I make it turn off?

Getting a new gas cap and putting it on comes to mind. If that does not work, take it to a dealer or shop with a real analyzer and have them reset it for you.

Check engine light

Code PO442 means you have a small leak in your evap system. Codes PO452 & PO453 refer specifically to the fuel thank.

Although it will be a good idea to change your gas cap, I don't think it is where your problem is coming from.

I would check the vacumm hoses for loose fitting or small cracks.

Specially if you had your car worked on recently.

Good luck

Check engine light comes on with codes PO401 & PO442 where these sensors are its a 1998 buick century

P0401 sets when EGR flow test runs and fails. EGR may be moving too slow or not at all. May be a bad connection.
P0442 sets when vacuum decay test indicates small leak in the EVAP system detected during diagnostic test. Check for a loose or defective gas-cap. If the cap is fine it may be a false code or could be related to another EVAP component.

How do you nturn off loose gas cap alert?

You need a scanner to do that, but...after so many starts of the engine, if the problem is solved, the light will go away. (I seem to think it's 50 starts)

2000 lesabre wont start. Battery is good. Engine cranks but won't turn over.

You need to find out whether it is getting gas and spark. To check the gas, depress the button in the middle of the Schraeder valve on the fuel rail. Some gas should spurt out under pressure. Still, the injectors might not be getting a signal, but I think the check engine light should tell you if that isn't working. To check the spark, disconnect one spark plug wire and provide a gap to ground where you can see it in a dimply lit place. You should be able to see a spark. Test those two things. The coils and igniter seem to go bad together.
