I've done this many times. First grab the shifter and pull up with everything you have. It will come off if you pull hard enough. You may have to use 2 hands and a couple of legs to get it off the first time. After is is off, simply use a screw driver and pry out the trim piece with the letters on it, you know the D,R,N, 1, 2.... The light is under it, so simply untwist the bulb holder to undo it. Ensure you align the notch for the correct gear. You'll be able to tell if you are in Park and your gear selector says Neutral. After you put the trim on, just put the selector knob back on with a sharp blow with your fist.

How to replace gear shift light bulb in a 2001 toyota echo

The center console piece around the floor shifter should normally be held in place with plastic clips ( some are held with screws ) and should just pop up with a gentle tug. The bulb can then be accessed for replacement

I need to check bulb in the shift compartment (park, neutral drive) area

I dont know what year make or model car this is but you will need to remove the cover, most of them with the floor shifter are about the same. if you have a center console you will need to startr by removing that, look in the storage compartment at the bottom and remove the screws then toward the front look on the sides for screws and remove those, the ring around the shifter should pop off and there you will see screws also remove those, then you will be able to get to the shifter bulb.

The letters on my shift selector of my Nissan Do not light up.

Likely its the bulb that illuminates the shift selector, There not to hard to replace, it will actually prove to be more of a challenge trying to find the bulb anywhere other then the dealership where you will pay around $150 for a $10 bulb. as for actually replacing it, its not to difficult if you can find the screws that mount the plate that has the letters around your shifter, once you find those, just pull the bulb out, and replace it with a new one. Be sure to disconnect the battery before doing this though, so you dont cause a short. If you cant figure it out, its probably best to seek help from a mechanic or someone that is familiar with it.

Automatic transmission panel in my 2001 Toyota Corrola should light up when headlights are on, but this has stopped happening. Any idea why?

The bulb located adjacent to the shifter has burned out.
It is easily accessible. Remove any visible screws, including opening the glove/storage lid and removing the screws in there. Once all the visible screws have removed, the panels snap off.
Did a bulb change-out on this exact problem/exact vehicle recently. It took less than 30-minutes from Start to finish. You only need a Phillips head screw driver and a Flat head screw driver for prying the panels off.
TIP: Take the bulb with you when finding a replacement to ensure you get/receive the right size and type. There will be an the bulb or on the base of the bulb a set of letter and numbers telling you the particular bulb you need.

Light in toyota corolla VE 98, automatic gear shifter is not working how to fix it?

you have to remove the screws (or bolts) inside the center console compartment. pry up the little ring around the shifter. pull up the e-brake and pull that whole assembly up. once removed there is a small 194 bulb located on the drivers side on the bottom. you should see the little black base. twist counterclockwise to remove. replace bulb and reinstall

Light bulb is burned out on gear shift console. How to remover cover?

The center console needs to be removed, pull the shift plate plastic cover off, remove two bolts inside the console storage box, remove the phillips screws that are visible, the front center storage box also has to be removed, the bulb is located on the left side of the shifter from underneath.
