If it only happens at a certain point in the throttle travel, it may be a bad TPS. You would need a computer to confirm loss of signal, but that is what it sounds like.

Have you heard of Noid lights? You unplug the fuel injector and plug these in and they will light up if the injector is getting power. This might give you a better hint. There are also lights that go inbetween the spark plug and wire. Between these two items you may be able to narrow down the problem to a specific system. I believe that your car has a coil pack. Some of these engines have problems with the crank trigger. I believe it is located on the back side of the motor. If you decide to change it, be careful. I have heard of them breaking into two pieces and becoming a big problem.

sounds like your throttle positioning sensor is not set right so i would undo the two phillips heads that hold it and turn it till the idle doesnt fluctuate should be turned most of the way to the front of the truck. Also check your idle screw that throttle body could be set different.

Sounds like it may be a faulty TCC clutch solenoid. Torque Converter Clutch. The TCC solenoid is located in the transmission valve body located directly under the transmission oil pan.

Revs up while idling

If you didn't correctly reinstall the PCV hose from the black box at the throttle body back on to the valve cover, you might have a vacuum leak causing your high idle. I'd check that first. That is a common mistake to miss that rubber hose. It's hidden underneath the black box at the front of the valve cover. If it is loose, just loosen up the boot at the throttle body, and the two bolts on the right side of the black box above the valve cover. Reposition the 90 rubber hose back on to the valve cover and recheck it. A hissing noise with the engine running is a good indication that the engine has a vacuum leak somewhere- usually a rubber hose disconnected from the intake manifold or throttle body.

I have a 92 talon, has a rough idle when coasting and has low idle when still. I replaced plugs, wires, cleaned IAC valve, mass air flow sensor is good, cleaned the throttle body, added injector cleaner,...

Yes a vacuum leak could be the problem. Try filling a spray-bottle with tap water and spraying the vacuum lines and connections while the car is running.

2003 Lancer OZ Rally - Erratic Idle while sitting. Acceleration and normal driving is fine but when I stop for more than 10 seconds it bounces between 400 and 1000 rpms. What could be wrong?

You may be having a problem with your IACV idle air control valve. It is located on your Throttle body(follow the tube from your air cleaner to the throttle body) It will be on the the right below the tube. It is held on by three screws. It runs $430 at the dealer. I got one off of a junkyard throttle body for $30 and recycled the rest of the throttle body.

One of the things to look for is a vacuum leak, especially around the throttle body area. Make sure the throttle body gasket is not rolled and is seated properly. also check the PVC hose for leaks.

I'm experiencing rough/rocking idle of the engine. Also stalls when performing parking manouvers. Could i need new spark plugs?

check for air leaks or vacuum leaks around intake at the throttle body, be sure the rubber on the plastic of the air intake is sealing on the throttle body. may also have bad valve cover gaskets allowing oil into spark plug holes deteriorating the coil boots and causing a misfire.plugs will be good til about 80,000miles
