if your obd2 scanner fits the connection you have obd2, obd1 connector is way differnt.

It does not have an ignition control module. The PCM (powertrain control module) fires the coil pack based on signal it recieves from the crankshaft position sensor and the camshaft position sensor.

for the most part it is under the hood of your car where the sticker say engine size try this website to see if they have you car listed its www.autozone.com if not call your local part store and tell them its a 4.0 liter and you need the gap on the spark plugs

P0320 indicates that two successive erratic profile ignition pickup ( PIP ) pulses have occurred Some possible causes are : loose wires / connectors , arching secondary ignition components ( coil , wires , + plugs ) , on board transmitter ( 2 - way radio )

I had the same problem , and if you read your book, it could be the fuel pump shut off switch, mine was bad and went from on to off position, its usually under the passenger side of the dash, look underneath at the "top" of the carpet, and you'll see a little red switch, check to see if the thing is plugged in , if it is , check to see if the switch is all the way down. i had to get a new one , sombody must have kicked mine and made it broken, but i got a new one and it worked fine

Could be the ignition module or a fuel problem.
Have you checked the fuel pressure ?

Ford ranger 1996 4.0L v6 single cab long bed it runs but you have 2 have your foot on the gas it does not stay in idle for more than 5min less than that usually it does not take much gas pedal pressure to...


I would suspect that you have a failing fuel pump, the fuel pump pressure is bleeding off due to a faulty check valve, this causes hard starting esp when cold or after sitting. The fuel pump is located inside the fuel tank, the fuel tank must be removed to replace the fuel pump assembly.

What is the torque pressure on cylinder head bolts for a ford ranger 2.3l engine


The torque specs for the head bolts are 51 ft.lbs.then an additional 90-100 degrees(angle).Hope this helps.Good luck.

Possible solution is to check the fan speed switch. These go bad and won't change the speed/ or function in the lower speeds.
