Probably one of your rod bearings is going out and knocking when under load. Get it fixed before it stops completely.

The only thing in that area that can really cause a knocking sound are the valves and tappets. Check the valve clearances or the lifters for a defect.

SOURCE: ford 390 engine has terrible knocking noise when accelerating. What would cause this?

Not being able to hear it for myself, it sounds as if you have a wrist pin knock. The wrist pin connects the rod to the piston. The remedy is to replace the wrist pins and if the wear is extreme the piston and/or rod may need replacing. This work requires an engine tear down.

Try running it for a short while with the belts off to see if it changes the noise. If the noise goes away ...check water pump, fan clutch, power steering pump, ac ... and so on and so on.

I have a390 ford engine that back fires while idling it has a breaker point ignition what could be wrong

Check this video for idle speed adjustment. Backfiring can be caused by incorrect mixing in the carburettor or bad timing settings.

2002 ford taurus. jerks terribly when accelerating from 40 to 60mpg. Mechanic just told us we had a cracked water pump. Can a faulty water pump cause the car to **** when accelerating?

This sounds more like a misfire problem then a waterpump issue. If the waterpump is faulty it should be replaced before any serious overheating issues occur and damage the engine. As far as the waterpump causing the car to **** would say not likely. Is the check engine light on? If so the codes the vehicle has stored would be a better way to get to the issue. Please feel free to ask any additional questions.

Why does engine knock when under strain. When engine is idle it sounds good. But when you engage it to move it knocks terribly

Sounds like main bearings are loose in engine. Need to check it out soon if not you will put a flat spot on the crankshaft costing much more to fix.

What causes my ford escape to rough idle occasionally?

Could be a fault in the Evap system (a loose/defective gas-cap), water in the fuel, defective I.A.C. is possible.
When the rough idle issue occurs does the engine light come on?
