Which battery did you change? There are two batteries installed on your vehicle. There is a battery in the trunk on the right side which is called the systems battery which supplies power to the electronics of the vehicle and the second battery is under the hood near the bottom of the windshield. The battery under the hood is the starter battery. Check and/or replace that battery and let me know what happens.

I appoligize I miss read the vehicle. The answer I gave would work for an SL 600 and not the S 600 especially since there is only one battery in the S Class. There could be a couple different reasons why your S 600 is not starting after replacing the battery. First I must ask if the vehicle cranks but doesn't run or it doesn't crank at all.

Intermitten dead will not start

Check that the battery terminals and posts are shiny clean and tight. Check for loose earth wires. Check that the wires on the starter are tight. Check that the IGN fuse is tight . Lastly have a load test done on the battery as it may have a broken bridge in the cells.

Turns over but wont start

Briannatara:

Some questions to help in the analysis........

You say "it cranked for about 3 seconds and died as if I turned off the key" did it actually start and then die?
Have there been any clues (unusual happenings) recently that might relate to the current problem?

Is there a reason the battery went dead? was something left on? Lights, etc?

How old is the battery?
