SOURCE: 4 alternator replacements in 4 years 1996 maxima

Has anyone looked at the connectors to the alternator? I remember these types of stories from work, alternator after alternator, found 2 things to be the problem, one is the connector to the alternator was defective, makes a poor connection and destroys the new alternator, the other is very poor quality rebuilds from Kragen, Auto Zone and the like, use a factory rebuild, they cost more but they are just as good as a new one.

Check to make sure the power lead from the alternator to the battery has a good connection. Sometimes the connectors get corroded, or the wire separates inside the insulation. You can check the wire for continuity with an Ohm meter...make sure to disconnect the wire at both ends when you use the Ohm meter.
Make sure the battery has a good clean ground. Make sure the alternator is grounded to the engine and the engine ground strap is intact and has clean grounds on both the engine and frame. Test the alternator with the engine running using a voltmeter across the battery. You should read 13.5 to 14.7 volts. If the alternator is not charging the battery will go dead under normal operation. If you don't get the correct charging voltage either your connections are bad or the alternator is bad.

I have a 2001 Nissan Maxima. The car starts but after awhile it stops. To keep the car running I have to keep pumping the gas. I'm wondering if the problem is witht the starter or the alternator.

Hello, the alternator nor the battery will give this issue. How many miles are on the car? Have you ever had the fuel filter changed or the fuel system serviced?

My car keeps cutting off and the battery and alternator are fine

I would return to the installer of the remote starter and ask them to remove it. Then see if the problems go away and I'll bet they do.

Engine will not start

That Clicking Sound is Coming from the Starter. First check the Starter Relay. It should be in a Fuse Relay Box under the Hood. If this is good, The Problem will be the Starter and will need to be Replaced. Also Check the Tension on the Belt. If the Belt is even a little loose it will not allow the Alternator to Charge the Battery and will cause a Not Start. Let me know what you find out. My battery died on my 89 nissan maxima and every since then my

You may need a new alternator because if they are messed up, they will drain batteries and make it hard to start or keep your car running. Also get the starter checked because that can make it hard to start the car too.
