The headlight switch is part of a muti-switch the runs the lights on one side and wipers on the other. They are not cheep.

2) remove steering wheel
3) remove steering colum covers
4) unplug multi- switch (there may be 2 screws that hold the plug to the colum
5) remove screws (I think there is 4 screws) that hold multi-switch

if yes, replace the (A/T?) PRNLD tranny switch. if both fail and are not dim and the fuse is not burned out.

Reverse lights don't work. replaced switch and checked fuse and bulbs 1997 subaru legacy

is this car an automatic transmission? if it is then you will need to check the gear selector switch on the transmission. I have seen one that would not properly engage for the park/neutral and reverse switches to function but the car was still drivable.

2001 Subaru forester backup lights do not work. Bulbs are good and fuse is good.

they are turned on by a switch which is turned on and off by the position of the gearshift in reverse. get a service manual for a few bucks on ebay, or visit a dealer and have them show you the location of the switch. if it is easy to get to, you can take it on yourself to remove and reinstall with new.
