    * the antifreeze to the motor, however it was just dripping on to that line. We checked the valve and it was not working properly. You could blow into it and air would come out. It was a cheap fix, valve is only $60

You will need to start the car and if you cannot see where it is leaking from try using a mirror to see in behind the engine as it could be leaking from a numbe of places, such as a hose, a head gasket, a frost plug. hint that a head gasket will usually cause the vehicle to release white smoke out of the exhaust pipe. I hope that this helps and that you take the time to rate this site, Good luck.

My 2005 beetle heater will take too long to blow hot air..

hi Jonathan.
leaks in your 2005 Volkswagen Beetle. Leaking coolant is one of the more common types of fluid leaks on Beetles. Engine coolant (which is also called antifreeze or anti-freeze) moves through the inside of your Beetle's engine and keeps it from overheating. Coolant can leak from the reservoir or from the hoses, in 2005 Beetles coolant leaks are most likely to occur where the hoses connect to the engine.
A few things to note about coolant is that it is sweet tasting and highly toxic, so it can end up in the dog's stomach pretty quickly. If you ignore a small coolant leak long enough, you will run out of coolant, which leads to an overheated engine and other serious, but highly avoidable, problems. In many 2005 Beetles, an anti-freeze leak can cause the temp sensor to record high engine temperatures. thermostat most likely culprit if it is taking a long time to heat up.

I have antifreeze coolant leaking from the rear of my engine and want to gain excess to my rear freeze plugs. Do I pull my transmission to change the rear freeze plugs on the 1989 crown Victoria?

Yes, you have to pull the transmission. But look it over closely. Most likely the coolant is coming from somewhere else. I have never seen or replaced a bad freeze plug back there. Water can't get to them to rust them out from the outside in. Only if you use water only to cool the engine. Heater hoses and the intake manifold gaskets can cause a leak in this area.

There many ways to find out a leak . Place a large piece of paper Under truck let it rest overnight . you will find out where the leak is .. like front ,or rear or left or right.
Another way is with dye that color antifreeze and with blacklight you will see the leak
And if you suspect where it leak with foot powder in spray can ...spray the area with it you will see the trace of antifreeze

Coolant Leak Near Muffler

The closest thing to the rear of your vehicle that holds antifreeze is the heater core.most cars have a tray with a hose to evacuate antifreeze if the heater core fails.

I just recently changed the heater core and added antifreeze to my 1990 Buick Skylark (2.5L) and noticed recently that the fluid level in my antifreeze reservoir is low. Wanted to know what the antifreeze...

There should be a fluid capacity chart in your owners manual. You can also just go ahead and fill the reservoir to the proper level with coolant and keep an eye on it. If after a week you notice it low again and you still can't find the spot where the leak is, I'd try using some good old stop leak. Also, take a look at your oil to see if it has coolant in it. If so, it will have a brownish grey sludge gathering around the oil filler cap. If that's where your coolant is leaking, you may have a leaking head gasket and that would explain why you can't find a leak elsewhere..

Is there a way to know wheither its the water pump or a hose if you car is losing antifreeze? The car doesnt seem to be leaking when it is idle in the parking spot but when i come home frome a ride the...

it could easily be burning the antifreeze through a bad head gasket. if when warmed up the upper hose is quite stiff indicating the system is under pressureand you shut it off, even waiting until the radiator fan comes on and then right away turning of the key, wait and see iff anything runs out.the water pump would have to be looked at from below while the leak is ocuuring= reason must mechanics suffer a lot of burns. or with a sall extendable saft mirror. you could also loose antifreeze from a heater core leak but that would give a lot of steam on your windshield inside in the cold weather,or the carpet would be wet inside the car

When i run my 1996 dodge ram 1500 it smells like antifreeze. i had the head changed but it smells like antifreeze. what could be the problem?

check the coolant level to see if it has dropped. Then look under the engine, for any leaks.Look for pools of coolant on top of the engine,or run down on the sides of the engine. Then look for radiator hoses, ans heater hoses that are leaking. If you are loosing antifreeze ,and you are sure the coolant is going somewhere, you may sill have a head,or head gasket, that are bad.If it has not been long before the head change, then the antifreeze may be still present in the exhaust,or on the engine,so you may have to wait a little longer for smell to disapate.Cleaning the engine can help.

Low coolant

the fluid has to be going somewhere. run the car so that the coolant gets flowing look very carefully all over under the hood. i dont know but if you ever get an antifreeze smell while in the car it may be your heater core.

Windowes steaming up

You either have alot of water somewhere in the car, rugs, seats or spare tire well. Is it snowing where you are? Or, your heater core is leaking. If it's the heater core you can smell it, if you never smelled coolant before open the radiator cap when the car is cold and take a whiff. If it's standing water, well, almost everyone knows what that smells like.
The heater core is more likely the problem. You must check the coolant level in the radiator. If the coolant levels in the radiator and resivour are low it has to be a leak in the heater core or hoses. On average heater core leaks can be small and take time to get really bad but you must monitor your radiator coolant levels or your car will over heat one day and you won't be prepaired. Also I don't know the health hazzards associated with breathing steamed antifreeze over time.

Over time you will notice that you need to clean off the areas that got steamed up and you will find the paper towel is really dirty looking (more than normal), that is another indication of a heater core leak somewhere.
