When your car is overheating, turn it off. check the temperature with your hand on the upper and lower radiator hoses, if the top hose is hot and the bottom is cold, your thermostat is locked. Its easy to fix and cheap ($5-20). Follow the top radiator hose to the enginge block, there you will find the thermostat cover, remove it and replace the thermostat with a new one, make sure the spring is toward the engine block...problem solved.

My son's mazda 626 has overheated. I don't think he drove too far with it too hot, but he did drive a few miles like that. It is still too hot to check, what should I do ?

check the oil and if it looks milky he probly needs a new head gasket. If the oil looks normal you probably nee to check the thermostate and get a mechanic to give your radiator a pressure test to check for leaks

1999 Protege overheating. Changed thermostat, radiator, water pump and burped the new radiator. Runs fine on freeway, but will overheat in stop and go traffic.

if your vehicle has electric cooling fans it could be that they are not working,if this is the case when you are on the freeway you don't need the cooling fans you only need them when the vehicle is not moving as there is no air going through the radiator to keep the engine cool......hope this helps......cheers.

Engine overheating

All i can think of is the thermostat is not opening. or you may have a clog somewhere preventing the flow. Check the T-stat and hoses and radiator ( for clogs) Good luck
