Question about 1995 Nissan Quest

1 Answer

I have a '95 Nissan Quest that runs badly

I changed the fuel filter, checked the fuel pump and it is good. The van starts and ides normally but won't run over 1500 RPM unless I let it sit and idle for 30+ minutes. The engine seems to be "hunting" for fuel or oxygen when first started.

It hard to scan a '95 because it is OBD I and no one has a portable one. The problem I 'm having has nothing to do with the car warming up. It is fuel starved or oxygen starved as the RPM's only go up to about 2200.......up down, up down ranging between 1500-2200 RPM. The engine is "hunting."

go to guy a master on any car-and returns emails--in the mean time I would still clean that throttle area specially the idle control motor--tps sensors are a problem with many cars also

In addition to replacing the fuel filter I also have checked the MAF sensor, cleaned the inside of the throttle body, took apart and cleaned the IAC valve and internal diaphram and checked the fuel pump output which is putting out normal pressure.

think you have a vacuum leak-if u dont hear hissing then its internal-like maybe the egr valve--dont kno if that car has a throttle position sensor-the tps-again chec it out-and go to that website-this guy knos specifics on any car

I don't think it's the TPS as the van ides normally after it starts. There are no vacuum leaks either.

SOURCE: changing water pump on 1994 nissan quest

There is no easy way, water pumps are hard to change on this vehicle. Before starting the job I would buy a repair manual with step by step instructions. To give you some idea on how long it may take, the labor time is 4.5 hours for an experienced tech.

SOURCE: Tie rod repair estimate

You didn't say if you were looking for inner/outer or for one side or both so I'm going to give you inner and outer for both sides, because you should get them both done if you have one done. For the inner tie rod you should look to pay $200-350 and for the outer tie rods you should look to pay $175-275. Check out this website It is a great place to find out how much you should expect to pay for many common repairs. You will see a range and that is because it takes into account the small shops and the dealers. Let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks for rating my response and for using FixYa!

Why does my 2000 Nissan Quest emits humming sound when engine run

Most likely, that is the sound of the FUEL PUMP. If the car is running well, don't worry about it. Try changing your fuel filter to see if that helps (usually does).
If you have trouble with fuel delivery at high speeds or under load, suspect that your fuel pump is about to fail.

1996 nissan quest runs good for the first 15-20 min

it does sound like a fuel pump, i am not 100 percent on that ,
as annoying as it is, u might have to start eliminating possible causes. also try checking your fuel pump relay fuse etc. another possibility check your fuel lines could be a blockage. fingers crossed

Van runs great until it heats up. generally about 15-20 min.

i would check to see if your fuel pump is working properly maybe first try replacing the fuel filter and running a fuel treatment.
