Ignitor on a ford ranger 1988 does not exsit.if you are having spark problems you may be talking about the ignition module, i will encolse a picture and also tell you where to locate it. there are many auto part stores that can test your to make sure its bad. good day.there are a few engines that come in this truck, if you have a 2.0 engine then the module is located on the left fender apron. if the truck has a 2.3 or 2.9 engine then the module is located on the base of the distributor.where is the ignitor on a

Truck is a 4x4 and a 88 Ford Ranger, when you turn the key, the starter will not engage. However, if you ratchet the clitch, sometimes the starter turns over, Is it mechanical or the computer and does...

I know on mine (88 ranger 4x4 manual transfer case and ******, 2.9 v6, short wheel base) it has what seems to me to be something similar to a nuetral safety switch. The starter will not even try to engage unless the clutch is in. You're kind of vague in your description. But if your issue is not getting it to turn over when in nuetral, and not pressing in the clutch I don't think anything is broken, that it is a safety feature from Ford

transmission modulator valve is clogged. it will not show up on the computer, but will definately make your truck do what its doing. 88-94 rangers hav had technical service bulletins issued by Ford for this issue. Very easy to replace.
