Question about 2002 Ford Explorer

Open Question

My ford explorer runs rough at idle when the engine is warmed. RPM fluctuates +/- 400 prm on average

I have a 2002 Ford Explorer that runs rough at Idle (and has stalled 3 times while stopped) -once the engine is warm. It does not occur after starting, but only happens after the engie is warmed, especially after driving for a long distance. The RPM fluctuates as much as +/- 400 RPM or less. It has very high mileage, but until recently has run smooth.

Hi I'm AL the owner of Big As Auto Repair

I'm glad to help!

One of the biggest reasons an engine idles to high is because of vacuum leaks. Check all the hoses for cracks and while looking listen very close for the vacuum leak it will be a hissing sound. For further assistance visit my website below. Have an awesome day! Auto Repair

2002 escape 3.0 idle fluctuates and misfires when driving

No such thing as a tune-up

All you did was replace spark plugs which should be
done every 3 years

Oxygen Sensors get replaced at 100,000 miles which you
also did

You most likely have an intake gasket leak, smoke test
the entire Evap System & Engine

You also are have bad igniton coils

95 ford explorer idles for a few minutes then shuts off. Only when the engine is cold. When it is warm it dosent do it.

Engine stalls cold or RPM fluctuates at idle up and down or dies near idle.

This problem is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and throttle valve but always run a OBD2 fault code as well as the cleaning procedure. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (do not use carburetor spray cleaner!) from NAPA or Carquest (made by CRC chemicals) and spray it into the air intake while the engine is running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will try to stall hold the speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30 minutes, restart and blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base idle control

2007 FORD EXPLORER HAS LOW IDLE RPM. RUNS A LITTLE ROUGH AT IDLE ONLY

Sounds like EGR Valve sticking in the open position.Take valve off and try cleaning it with a non-chlronated brake cleaner or replace it.

2002 ford explorer

I am guessing here w/o much info, 1 of maybe 4 things, idle speed contoller motor, low fuel pressure, dirty air filter, or lastly, carbon buildup on the throttle body throat. When cold idle the carbon blocks off the little needed air and the engines will run rough or just die.
