Question about 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Hi tooter106,When a direct drive goes out it is unlikely that additives will help, even with a filter and flush. Is the transmission color good or does it smell burnt? Unfortunately there is not much you can do here without a tech. One thing you can check relatively simple is that the shift linkage is in proper adjustment centering on all transmission positions, due to it being reverse that has gone out it may also be one of the following:
-The rear band could be out of adjustment
- It could be a valve body malfunction such as a stuck or damaged manual valve or regulator valve or check ball or possibly the rear servo or front clutch malfunction.Hope this helps you let me know what you find out, good luck to you.

This could be an issue with the shift solenoid , but can also be caused by low fluid due to a leak, check your fluid. Is there a check engine light on, if there is it could be a solenoid issue.
