Try looking on the passenger side foot well. On my 85 380 there is a small cutout on the right side panel that hides the fuse block.

Look the fuses over carefully as they can have hairline cracks that don't show up from a distance.

SOURCE: HYDROPNEUMATIC SUSPENSION

Hello, I've never seen a 420sel with hydro-pneumatic suspension. Are you sure that it isn't a 560sel?
Anyway, there is a tank on the left side of the engine compartment close to the front that is a little larger than a qt jar. It may look yellowish in color and has a steel line going to it with a screw on lid and a dipstick. Pull out the dipstick and ck the fluid level. If it shows nothing, fill to the correct level only using the Correct Mineral Oil That It Calls For. If it is full, you probably have a bad pump that is located on the front of the engine.
I hope this helps.

SOURCE: i just bought a mercedes 420 sel 1986, can not get

Hey ther, If have not found an answer try this.
On the pass side of the remove the floor mat/carpet under the carpet you will see a black panel, remove the panel and there you will see several modules the secutiry modules is closet to the center console on it you will see two connector large one at the to unplug it and a small one at the bottom unplug it this will turn off the alarm system.

To start the car you may need to put the car in neutral and back in park the sensor is may be going bad. try starting the car.

if you want to keep alarm system you will need to by a new module this should fix your problem.

1990 Mercedes Benz 420 SEL computer problem? wont

This could be caused by a faulty Crank position sensor. The computers are expensive for this and not something that commonly fails on these. Have the fuel pumpchecked for operation and pressure. Check for spark at the plugs. Then we can procede further if you would like.

I need an electrical control schematic for the HVAC system on a 1986 Mercedes 420 SEL. The mechanic fixed the ac but he doesn't have an electrical diagram to tie the ac controls in to it since it is so...

If he is bypassing the Climate Control unit to engage the compressor he didnt fix it he just bypassed the safety features to save you money. There are sensors on the dryer that read temp and pressure, good time to replace the dryer when you replace those, there is an internal and external temp gage for the system 1 under wiper assembly and the pump interior behind the glove box. You get those checked and i am sure once replaced or checked the system will work as designed. If you still wish to bypass your safety features he will need to rigg a bosch relay as to not kill the compressor so it can cycle on and off and rig to a switch he can mount somewhere in the car that you can reac, I suggest using the rear dome light switch.

Too fast idle running speed.

Typical idle for this motor is right around the amount you have described. Check to see if any check engine lights are on, or if the ABS light is on. A typical issue with this motor is the OVP relay that when not operating properly causes the engine to rev much too high (~1500-2000). Also do your revs drop significantly when you put the car into gear? If not then there really isnt an issue. When the motor is idling too high and you stick it into gear the car will typically lurch really hard.
