If the thermostat connects to the water pump housing from a metal tube which connects to the lower radiator hose did you disconnect it if so there are two bolts which mount the housing to the block and one other at the end of the of a long tube on a bracket which is one of the transmission bolts. Now this is for the sohc 4 cylinderif you have the DOHC 4 you have to remove the timing chain and stuff big headache. Also if you need some pictures of how to do it go to Auto Zones web and click on repair and fill in the type of car and so on and you should find it in engine overhaul under water pump. Ken

if it is coming from behind the r front tire and is a 4cyl the water pump has an o-ring that fits between pump and block and is behind timing cover where you can not see it. usually if it is leaking you can look under car at the engine on r-side at p/s pump area and can see where coolant has run down oil pump to oil pan from behind t-cover. hope this helped give me more info if not and good luck................

I cant remove the motor mount or timing cover?

It's as simple as unbolting it. If you don't have the strength, get a mechanic.

I've gone as far as loosening the motor mounts and raising the engine with a jack. You still have to shoot through the wheel well with a long extension and socket for some bolts on that side.

Ford mondeo 2002 Zetec 2.0 motor ..Have a small or slow water leak comming from front of motor behind water pump area ,above air con unit, where water hose goes into the motor ..very hard to see where it's...

Starting from the top down dab every joint and seam with kitchen paper towel. Between each dab and press examine the kitchen towel for dampness. It is vital that you find out exactly where the leak is coming from. You could be lucky and the leak might be fixed buy an extra half turn on a jubilee connector on a hose union or a quarter turn on the water pump or thermostat housing bolts. If the leak persists you may require a new gasket . If the leak is from the water pump shaft seal behind pulley you will see a tell tale stain on the 'chin' of the pump body. This will require a replacement of the pump.

Coolant leak... have a pretty bad coolant leak that looks like its behind my timing chain cover... need to add like a gallon of water a day in it... just had the water pumped and thermostat changed......

If you really mean behind the timing chain cover than perhaps the
chain has worn through it which does make for a leak. Probably not the answer you want to hear but not an uncommon problem.
