SOURCE: how to adjust caliper for rear brakes on a Mazda Protege Es.

yep, this is what u do. i read that this controls hand break and you need to completely loosen that using hex (3mm) key. BUT, when u tighten it back up, u need to unscrew it about 1/8th, VERY important, or ur pads will be rubbing way too much against the rotor. I actually had to do about 1/2 the turn to make the wheel spin w/out too much pressure.

SOURCE: Mazda Protege ES 2001,speedometer and odometer

Vehicle speed sensor. See if you can buy one of those cheap OBD2 scan tools Wal-mart sells, and if you have a P0500 in the PCM, I would place my money on a broken sensor. It costs about $60

My 2001 Mazda Protege does not shift into third gear. The check engine and battery light is on. I've had the transmission fluid checked, a tune up and an alternator put in. What should I do?

In every case where the check engine light is on there should be a code read and/or the use of diagnostic equipment to locate the fault, repairs carried out as required and then the code cleared from the memory.

It is probable other things will start working normally when the problem causing the engine check light to illuminate has been rectified but whether this is true or not that must be your starting point.

Check the air inlet boot going from the air filter to the intake for rips or holes. If rips exist, this would allow air to bypass the filter and mass air flow sensor and will lead to a check engine light appearing. The code would read "too lean, bank 1." If this problem is allowed to continue for long periods of time, the EGR ports will have to be cleaned out and maybe even the intake.

Po300 multiple cylinder misfire po705 transfer case circuit malfunction

Check the EGR valve. Replacing the EGR valve fixed my error code for misfiring. I also had to remove the battery cable for 5 minutes to turn off the check engine light.
