Question about Cars & Trucks
I was wondering where the Idle air control valve, mass air flow valves are on a 2005 chevy astro van, the van starts fine the first time you go to start it, but when you try to start it a second time it will start and then die out because it will not hold its idle, you can also hear a tapping noise at times coming from the engine, does anyone know what this might be if not for the IAC and MAF valves?

The distributor in that engine can only be installed in one position. The hold down is built onto the distributor meaning when it is installed and the engine runs the computer is responsible for the timing. The distributor will move a little but won't correct major timing errors.

SOURCE: 2000 astro van won't start
What you have to do is check and see if you have fuel pressure. You have to remove the engine cover to check it.If you don`t have a pressure tester then remove the air cleaner hose to the engine and spray it with carb.cleaner or brake cleaner. If it starts for a few seconds then it is more than likely a fuel pump.If it does not start then you have to check for spark at the spark plugs.Make sure you check more than one plug.If no spark then you have to check the distributor cap and rotor.Make sure the rotor is good and cap also.Things that can cause no spark are the ignition module, coil, and cap and rotor.Hope this helps.Good luck.
