Question about 1997 GMC Jimmy

1 Answer

1997 jimmy takes forever to start if even.

I have to plug it into an electrical starter overnight to ensure it starts in the a.m. It also takes a long time to get jumped before starting. It NEVER starts right up. Battery, alternator and ignition switch are all good. What else could it be?

I'll check to see if some one can see if it is the the CPU. I haven't heard that one yet. What is it? Most people think it is the alt, bat or ign.switch until they test them and find them fine. Then they just scratch their head too.

Sounds like you are loosing fuel pressure overnight. Since it takes 70+ psi to start and run, if you have zero pressure in the morning, it would take a long time of cranking to get the pressure back up.
If it is low or no pressure, the problem could be a faulty check valve in the fuel pump.

I have a 1997 BMW 328i. It will not start wont even make a noise when turning key. Tried jump but didn't work. Hit the starter with a hammer. Changed battery. Lights work radios works just won't start...

try removing the spark plugs to ensure that you do not have a hydraulic lock in a combustion chamber. This happens when a crack or faulty head gasket allows water into the chamber and when the piston comes up it is prevented from going over the top of the stroke. Removing the plugs allows the water to come out and the engine to spin.

My gmc jimmy has been taking a while to start and

check to see if the starter clicks when you try it...you could go on the starter and cross the two posts and see if it trys to start. if it does not even do any thing than your starter is bad... i would think that your starter is probably out now cuz you have had to crank it over so much to get it running,.. and as far as it not starting i would change the plugs wires cap and rotor.

1997 gmc jimmy wont start in cold

there are a few possible things. easiest to hardest, check your spark plugs for wear and gap. if its not the plugs it could be water in fuel system freezing. in colder enviorments it is always best to get highest octane fuel available because it contains less water. try adding an octane booster or fuel stabalizer when fueling up. also fuel filter may be at the end of its lifespan, it would take more cranking to suck the fuel through it if it is clogged.

1997 jimmy 4.3L 4x4 wont start

I had the very same problem with my 97' jimmy. I finally replace the ignition wiring harness. That controls the electrical going to the dash. Blinkers, gauges, fuel pump, I also replaced the Key switch just in case. Started right up all gauges work, blinkers everything.
