Question about 2004 Volkswagen Touareg
I have just bought a 2.0dtise vw touran and the esp light is on at the dashboard.
This car is not a toureg its a touran but couldn't find one on the drop down list
I have tried to switch the esp on and the switch doesn't do anything.
The swith on the centre console just light up off all the time and switching it doesn't take the light of the dashboard.
It has just passed its mot and has covered 70.000 miles but no problems at all with the car i just can't switch the esp on.
Hope its not something drastic as the car drives and runs fine but annoying with this light on.
The person i bought the car off thought it was just the switch as it doesn't switch it on it just stays on off.
Heres hopeing a simple fix.
This is common problem with many vw's
Sounds silly but change the brake light switch under brake pedal.
Often solves the problem (about £8 for switch) will need the light turning out by diagnostic tool.

The Switch is Faulty... I have seen several Different models of Cars with the same Problem ( Olds Alero) You could have the switch changed, but more COST than worth the Fight ( My Opinion ) especially if U aren't having any Problems out of the Car....

It is indicating a fault with system. A very common fault on tourans is the abs control unit going faulty. Unfortunately the part alone is about £1000. It will be worth having the vehicle checked with a suitable fault code reader, I would expect it to return a 'G201 Brake preasure sender' fault. If so the abs control unti needs replacing..

Amazing my touran is 3 yrs old since may esp light came on .I think sometimes are they programmed to fail. I live in rep of Ireland vw done 50% on part which is 1080 euro plus vat new and labour was 90 euro an hour at 4 hours labour . The whole abs unit has to be replaced i am 900 euro poorer and sick .We loved our touran now i hate it would never buy vw again no customer service and arrogant

As above, this is a very, very common problem on Golf V, Touran, Audi A3 8p, TT, Leon, Toledo etc. If the diagnostics are saying there's a brake pressure switch fault then there is currently no fix apart from a new ABS pump with ECU. If your car has a full VW main dealer service history, then contact your local dealer because VW are replacing some of these on cars that are out of warranty, on a goodwill basis. But, they will not pay if the car has been serviced outside the main dealer network.
