Contact your Acura dealership because although your extended warranty expired the transmission should have a 150,000 mile warranty due to the recall. Mine went down when it had 90,000 and they rebuild it for free.

Someone's ripping you off badly. You can buy a new crate motor for that cost. What company quoted you that? You should let me know so that I can warn other people not to go there. Yes it is recommended that you change the timing belt every 60,000, but it is only a preventive measure. While the timing belt is being replaced, it is wise to change the water pump. Not because it's gone, but just preventive measures once again.Transmission gasket is about $30, valve pan gasket about $25, and timing belt is under $100. Ask them how many hours they are quoting you for. The '' book time '' in Canada is 4-5 hours labor. Here, our labor rate is $65-$75 per hour. Total cost @under $600. Don't allow this shop to rip you off, and tell them that you have a quote for $600from a licensed mechanic, and watch them squirm. Even if they did replace the water pump, and all belts, the bill would still be under $1000. I hate seeing people getting ripped off by shady mechanics. Good luck and let me know how you make out with other quotes Cheers from Nova Scotia!

I own a 1999 Corolla LE. Runs like a top. Regular maintenance. When should the timing belt(chain) be changed? It has 83,000 miles on it.

It's past due. But these belts will last up to 120,000 miles. When and if you do the timing belt replace all of the components in there. You only want to do this once. Shop cost is $600.00 to $800.00. Do it yourself about $225.00. If you do it yourself , buy a manual. Lots of important info.

After how many miles should the timing belt be changed

The timing belt replacement interval for your 3.5L engine is every 120,000 miles. I would also replace the water pump, the tensioner and idler pullies, and the cam and crankshaft front seals at the same time. All of these components will also have 120,000 miles on them and they will not last another 120K. Failure of any of these components will result in the timing belt having to be replaced again and/or severe engine damage.

You didn't tell us in which currency that '2780' was quoted but if US $, that seems unreasonable to me.
Timing belts can cost >$100 but not often and vary in degrees of difficulty to replace; on one of our cars (87 X1/9) it's about a 30 minute job. A Subaru Outback is more like a couple of hours so yours is likely in that range somewhere.
Valve cover and transmission gaskets aren't normally that tough to replace and cost little; check one of the chain auto parts sites to verify that. It only takes a few minutes to run up the potential parts cost and the labor should run well under a $1000 total.
Now you have a second opinion but, get a 3rd one in person.

When should the timing belt be changed on a saab vector 1.9 Tid

Standard Answer for Timing Belts/Chains: 100,000 to 120,000 miles is when the Timing Belts/Chains start malfunctioning or failing. Some people want to go ahead and change them before malfunctions/failures happen.
I just replaced mine on 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan which just turned 100K. Most Timing Belt/Chain failures will cause more costly engine damage when these fail, including a need to replace/rebuild an entire engine.
