Removing an oil pan

I have a 1995 Nissan Pathfinder and the oil pan is leaking. Do I have to lift the motor to replace it or is there an easier way to do it?

Many cars require that you push the brake pedal before it will turn the starter. Keep brake pedal pressed. then try to start. If it still does not start, this still could be the problem. When the break pedal is pressed a switch is clicked on. It could be that the switch is bad.

I just bout a 1995 nissan pickup, it needs an oil change and the oil pan is leaking. i would like to know if i need a certain type of oil filter, and how i can either fix or install a new oil pan into it....

if you have the 2.4 motor this is your oil filter Fram Extra Guard® - Oil Filter Part # PH3682 the oil pan comes out fairly easy,, you may have to remove some components to clear the sump pump that lays inside the pan, if you have a small enough hole, you can have it welded for pretty cheap, if you want to go that route, be sure whoever is doing the welding, drains the oil, and cleans the spot completely with brake cleaner or some other oil removing solvent, and let dry completely , if its just leaking around the gasket,, drop the pan and replace the gasket

It appears that i have oil dripping from my oil pan area. is there a gasket on the oil pan i need to replace?

oil leaking anywhere on the engine runs down and gets caught on the oil pan lip, builds up runs over and then looks to be an oil pan leak. so what you do is take the thing to a shop with a lift, like an oil change or muffler shop, and ask them to put it up on the lift so the rest of the engine can be easily examined for leaks. if there is no other place above the oil pan with a thin layer of oil on it, then most likely the pan gasket is leaking. before you buy the gasket take a good look at any suspension hardware which could obstruct easy removal of the oil pan. it may require lifting the engine up out of its mounts to get the gasket replaced, so simply snugging up the bolts holding the pan on and living with a small leak may be the way to go.

Need to replace starter on 1995 v6 pathfinder looks like if oil filter is removed starter will come out from top

If it's 4WD it recommends removing front gravel shield, and connector from oil pressure switch, then drain oil and remove oil filter. Then should come out top.

How to replace an oil pan gasket on a 1995 chevy Z71?

I'm asuming you would like to do it in the truck. To do that you need to remove the inspection cover from the front bottom of the transmission, the starter, the oil filter, the distributor cap ( don'tunplug the wires) and the bolts from the motor mounts. With this done you should be able to jack up the engine with a block under the oil pan and a hydraulic jack. BE CAREFUL,don't force things. When the engine stops lifting find out why before you try to make it go up more. The engine needs to raise about 3-4 inches to get enough clearance. Block it up usually between the motor mounts. If you block it at the harmonic balancer you run a high risk of doing damage to your crank, I know it's easier but...it's your crank. If you need to lift it higher when you are trying to slide the oil pan outthen put it back in place and do it that way. Hope this helps.

Do i need to drop the oil pan to ghange the timing cover gasket on a 95 ford mustang v6?

You can pull the motor mounts bolts and jack the motor up alittle, that will give you enough clearance to drop your oil pan. If you try and replace the timing chain cover without dropping the oil pan, you will more than likely wind up with an oil leak.

You should be able to replace the timing cover without removing the oil pan. The gasket set should contain gaskets allowing you to cut the oil pan gasket and put in a new partial gasket in this area. In the corners make sure you use some RTV sealant. If you are careful, it can be done. Like Bob A says you can end up with a oil leak without dropping the pan (unless you clean up the area and properly apply the RTV and gasket). If you have time to drop the oil pan, then I would do that.

Need to replace the oil pump on a 95 park avenue

You shouldn't have to for head gaskets, makes it easier but not necessary.
For oil pan, you may have too. Depending on how much room there is between pan and crossmember and if pan is in tranny. Some cars the oil pan is 1/4" behind tranny but don't think that is the deal on your car.
