Question about 2000 Chevrolet Blazer
Most times it starts right up. sometimes it wont even turn over. there is no clicking to suggest the starter and the ingnition switch has been replaced. Also it is not the fuel pump. When this happens you turn the key and you get dash lights but nothing from the motor at all.
Is it totally random or is it more likely to happen after the engine is hot and sits turned off for a little bit? I'm betting you have a starter that is going bad. One way to check, and I realize this may not be the most convenient thing to do, is to see if there is power to the small purple wire at the starter when it doesn't work. If there is than it tells us everything is working except the starter and a new starter will likely take care of the problem. Another thing to check is to make sure the positive cable ends are clean and tight. I do believe this has two seperate positive cable ends at the battery? There is a lead button in between the two that likes to corrode up. A simple cleaning may take care of the problem. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. if this is the vortec engine you may want to check to confirm that the injector pot is working. The injector pot is located under the air intake manifold (top half only) & PLEASE BE SURE TO DISCONECT BATTERY FIRST. if you unbolt the top half of the intake manifold you will find the main injector pot otherwise known as the SPIDER. This part does have a history of failing and can be very costly to replace if you purchase it new. most junk yards should be able to find one for you.

take off the fuel line at filter and see if gas comes through. If it is elsectric it should make a noise not real loud but a noise.

First thing I'd check is the optispark sub harness. Check both connections, the one by the optispark and the one on the passenger side of the intake manifold. Disconnect both sides and check for corrosion. This is a known weak spot on these motors.
If that checks out your going to want to start with the basics. Do you have spark and fuel? Pull the spark plug wire for a cylinder and using a spark tester test for spark while cranking. You want to have a nice blue spark. If you have good spark check for fuel pressure by hooking up a fuel pressure gauge to the shrader valve on the fuel rail. It should be in the high 40s - low 50s. If you have fuel also, check to make sure the injectors are getting a pulse using a noid light.

Most likely a bad connector on relay or the fuel sock needs to be replaced. if the sock is plugged it would cause the fuel pump to work hard and cause it to heat the relay and make it hot and removing it will cause it not to run. check the connectors to the relay see if they are opened up in the female socket if they are use a dental pick to close them up with. otherwise replace fuel pump and sock at that age with the alcohol in fuel it's killed the pump and sock.

your statement is fuel pump work ok, have you tested for proper fuel pressure. just because the fuel pump works it could have less pressure needed to start the engine. maybe the fuel filter is plugged. start out by replacing the fuel filter, if this doesn't fix it, you need to pressure test the pump. even 10 psi reduction in pressure will allow the engine not to start.
