do a compression check. if you have a low compreeion reading below 80psi you need to do a head job. question is the iol milky on the dip stick?

I may not have the answer but I had a similar problem with my 97 taurus, for me the problem was the Oxygen sensors they needed to be replaced. If you havent done that maybe try it or ask a mechanic if that might be the problem

Probable coil due to age. It is a coil pack unit. Runs about 70.00 from parts store and not hard to change. Another possibility is the fuel injector, it's connector or wiring to it from PCM. Have a mechanic do a compression test on the cylinder to eliminate a mechanical issue i.e. burned or bent valve or piston rings bad.
