Replace thermostat as if its not working it is not letting cooled water from radiator to curculate engine. if not done it could do damage ie head gasket, warp head

SOURCE: low coolant level

The water pump is mounted in the center passenger side of the motor possibly inside with timing belt but if it is leaking you will see the water and coolant in that area.

SOURCE: 1997 z-71 Cooling problem, changed thermostat but no water circulation. It got pretty hot when all this suddenly happened. truck starts and runs no white smoke.

Make sure its full of water or coolant and look at your water pump.There is a weep hole on it.Weep hole= really small hole on top side your water pump.If there is water coming out that hole and im sure there is your water pump pump needs to be replaced.If this is your problem no worry its really easy.Message me if you need instructions.

How can i troubleshoot my heater core


It's just a simple small radiator. Coolant circulates through it, and the cores' fins give off heat that is picked up by the blower motor.
When the engine is at normal operating temperature, feel the two heater hoses. Both should be hot, verifying coolant is circulating through it. If only one is hot, the core may be plugged or have an air block. You can take off the core outlet hose and observe stream flow when engine is running and heater on high heat-flow should be slow but steady. The outlet hose will run from the firewall to the front of the engine into a fitting near the water pump. Some cars have a water valve in one of the hoses-make sure it is open, for coolant to circulate.

Water comes out of cap after I stop


When you stop the engine heat is still being generated inthe engine from all the hot bits. As there is now no water circulation through the radiator these cause local boiling which pushes the watemp right up. The pressure generated by this rise in temperature opens the cap expelling water. I would find the cause of the engine running hot to start with. Faulty fan /fan motor,failed viscous fan hub, thermostat blocked radiator are a few starting points

CHECK IF THE PUMP COUPLING IS THERE IF SO TRY BLEEDING THE RADIATORS UP STAIRS TO SEE IF U GET COLD OR HOT WATER N IF THE WATER IS DIRTY. THEY LINES MIGHT HAVE AIR IN THEM. IF U TRIED THESE N STILL NOT GETTING HOT U WILL NEED TO CHANGE THE MOTOR N COUPLING

how do you know the water is not circulating? could be thermostat or fan clutch could be slipping . also pressure cap could be loosing water back into jug .

Running hot


4.6 northstar motor? If the coolant is clean and the right mixture, the water pump is circulating the coolant, the fans are kicking on and there is free flow through the block, radiator, and heater core,You may have a head bolt and head gasket issue,. the bolts through the heads on this motor stretch and allow the gasket to leak internally, causing the car to run hot. What would cause it to run hot and the heat stop working at the same time?


I've seen cars run hot and the heater not work for the following reasons:

1. The radiator is frozen solid and the coolant can't circulate.
*** The fix, get the car into a warm garage and let the ice in the radiator melt. Once done, add the correct mix of antifreeze so it doesn't happen again.

2. The water pump is not working and the coolant isn't circulating.
*** The fix, replace the water pump and adjust antifreeze mix.

Overheating


Overheating can be caused by several things including low/no coolant, blocked/broken hose, faulty water pump, stuck thermostat. CHeck the coolant level in the over flow tank and in the radiator itself. If it's low you know you have a leak somewhere. If it's full you know the coolant isn't circulating through the system.

Let the car run until it heats up then feel the upper and lower hoses on the radiator, they should both be hot and firm when the coolant is circulating. If the top is hot and the bottom is cool and pliable then you know the coolant isn't going through. The most common cause of this is a thermostat that isn't opening. Look to make sure the water pump is operating properly, that's what circulates the water through the motor.

If you suspect a leak then you need to find where it's coming from. Check around the head/intake gaskets for signs of leakage as well as around the side tanks on the radiator and all hoses and connections.

Start with the small/obvious things first and progress from there. Good luck.

Runs hot and hearter not blowing hot air


a heater uses the temperature of the cars water, running threw a heat exchanger if the heater core has failed water will not circulate threw the engine properly this will and can cause over heating as well as nothing blowing from the heater. good luck.heater cores are generally inexpensive parts to replace.

last thing you can check if heater core is ok. is the thermostat.

Good Day,

Sounds like the thermostat is working properly, the only other cause for the valve/lifter noise could be the oil pump is not pumping enough oil up to the top of the motor. I suggest doing an oil change(if you haven'y aleready), be sure to flush several quarts through, after sitting for 5 years I'm sure the old oil is pretty sludgy, this well help rule out this possibilty. As far as the water pump goes, It either works or doesn't typically when they are on there way out the will leak from the gaskets. A bad head gasket would cause white smoke form the exhaust as coolant get's into the oil and is burned off, so I don;t hink this is the problem.

Radiator question


The way it works is that the water in the radiator will sit there and not circulate when the thermostat is not open until operating temp. is reached. Once it is reached you should see the water in the radiator circulate at this time.
