Question about Mitsubishi Pickup

Open Question

I have a Mitsibushi LD200 Animal and it has an engine fault. When starting the engine gradually increases in revs, without touching the throttle. This makes the vehicle undrivable. The local dealer put it on a computer, could not find a fault and let me take it away. This fault is intermittent. Can anyone help?

You need to remove distributor car and check for corrosion on the wire contacts or hair line cracks,
And check or replace rotor.it sounds like its jumping spark across wire contacts.

First, to read VW codes you will want to get yourself a $50 VAG tool. It will read all your systems, not just the ECU.
Electronic Power Control can go out for several reasons. Check your brake lights with the car running. Check you radiator fluid level. If the car is running bad, you could have bad spark plugs/ wires or ignition coil.
The traction control is tied into the ABS system and often causes problems here as well. Each wheel has a speed sensor and magnet wheel in the hub. You can check these for damage by removing the tires for access. The sensors come out by hand, and inside the hole they come out of is the place to check the magnets with a flash light. Apply a small amount of wheel bearing grease to the sensor.
The control unit goes out in these systems at an alarming rate. They can be easily removed, and repaired for under $200 at modulemaster.com
Since it is intermit, I suspect most likely a loose sensor, or electrical connector.
If your brakes feel squishy at all, bleed the brake lines of air and contaminants.

Hi, I have a 2001 polo 1.4 mpi it lackes power when you hit a hill it just dies, It has had new cat, fuel filter, fuel pump and throttle body, but is still the same it just dose not want to give me full rev's?

DTC P0121: Throttle Position (TP) Sensor 1 Performance
Circuit/System Description
The engine control module (ECM) uses the following information to calculate an expected airflow rate:

The throttle position (TP)

The barometric pressure (BARO)

The manifold absolute pressure (MAP)


?€¢
The intake air temperature (IAT)

The engine RPM


P0121 The predicted air flow and the predicted MAP combined are outside a calibrated range for more than 3 seconds.
Circuit/System Testing

  1. Inspect for the following conditions:

    Vacuum hoses for splits, kinks, and proper connections as shown on Vehicle Emission Control Information label

    Inspect thoroughly for any type of leak or restriction


    ?€¢
    Air leaks at throttle body mounting area and intake manifold sealing surfaces

    Throttle body for dirt, debris, and coking--Refer to Throttle Body Cleaning.

  3. Allow the engine to reach operating temperature. Observe the MAP Sensor Voltage parameter with a scan tool. Voltage should be more than 0.8 volt and less than 4 volts.

    If more than 4 volts or less than 0.8 volt, refer to DTC P0106.

  5. Idle the engine. Observe the MAP Sensor kPa parameter with a scan tool. Increase the engine speed slowly and then back to idle. The MAP sensor kPa should change smoothly and gradually as engine speed is increased and returned to idle.
  6. ?‡'
    If the MAP sensor kPa does not change, refer to DTC P0106.

  7. Take a snapshot of the engine data list while performing the actions listed below. The mass air flow (MAF) sensor g/s should change smoothly and gradually as the engine speed is increased and is returned to idle.

    Idle the engine.


    ?€¢
    Increase the engine speed slowly to 3,000 RPM, then back to idle.


    ?€¢
    Exit from the snapshot and review the data.


    ?€¢
    Observe the Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor parameter frame by frame with a scan tool. The MAF sensor g/s should change smoothly and gradually as the engine speed is increased and is returned to idle.

    If the MAF sensor g/s does not change smoothly and gradually as the engine speed is increased and is returned to idle, refer to DTC P0101 or P1101.

  9. Inspect the throttle body for the following conditions:

Loose or damaged throttle blade

Revs high when i change gear


Is it possible the clutch pedal is interfering with the throttle? Start the engine in neutral and allow it to idle. Press only the clutch pedal down and see if this increase the engine speed. If it does speed up the engine and slows back down when you release the clutch then somehow this operation is where your fault lies. If it doesn't alter the idle speed, then rev your engine and release the throttle to see if it returns to idle immediately. If it is slow to return to idle then your throttle cable could be sticking. This means when you change gear lifting off the throttle has little effect and depressing the clutch to change gear causes the engine to race as the throttle is still partially open.

Engine starts and idles fine, but will not rev up (2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.1 diesel auto)


If it was a fuel shortage the engine would rev but to limited speed. This is a lack of air to throttle body. Check for clogged air filter and all the piping and the throttle body.

Engine is not ticking over at the correct RPM


first try using redexe fuel additive (a full bottle to 5gallons)to clean injectors/fuel pump.
your car has a fuel cutoff valve,saves fuel when coasting(over 1800 revs,if you put car in nuetral going down hill you use fuel,so you are wasting fuel in neutral.but you have read the handbook cos it tells you in there.......

My 1992 sonoma started spuddering after I had the fuel pump, screen, and filter replaced on it. It started off a few seconds of it, gradually increased to 20 sec, then a min or two. Now it just runs bad...


First I would check the air filter, then clean the throttle body, use brake clean and a small brush, clean the opening and open the throttle plate and clean as much as possible on the back of the plate and down in the throttle. start the engine and rev up, spray the brake clean in the throttle, you don't have to use all of it. also do you have a check engine light?

My 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee idles perfect on starting, but as it warms up the idle increases to run away speed. I was told to try unplugging the position sensor while the engine is cold,the problem is not...


Your idle speed is controlled by the computer which reacts to signals from the engine sensors . You need to test the sensors with a digital multi-meter to determine which one is not giving proper readings.
both haynes and chilton manuals have good test procedures but I prefer chilton for better wiring diagrams.
Aside from sensors, I would clean the throttle body using carb cleaner inside, around the throttle plate to make sure it is sealing properly when closed. The device next to the tps should be your idle control solenoid. that too needs cleaning. If you remove it, don't turn the plunger on the end and do not loose the o ring. Good testing is necessary to determine what is wrong. get the manual and do it. No good shop could possibly tell you what's wrong without doing the exact same thing. If you have any stored fault codes, have any of the larger parts stores check them for you. Most do this free and it can be helpful to give you a starting point for tests.
Not necessary to rate this answer because aside from advice, I can't tell you exactly what is wrong.

Starts O.K. Lacks pulling power. Will not rev to full power.


check for a clogged exhaust look at catalytic converter it could be stop up.
