1996 dodge ram 1500 4WD shifts into reverse fine starts off in 1st and will not shift into 2nd gear

Could be as simple as low transmission fluid, but it can also be your shift solenoids or gonked up valve body. Star with checking your transmission fluid level. On that vehicle its pretty simple. There should be a yellow dipstick. Vehicle needs to be on and on operating temperature. Gear selector in P or N. Pull the dipstick out and see what it reads.

I have a 1991 stock dodge W150 4wd truck with a 4 speed, I need to know what are the shift points? !st seems like a granny

I have an identical truck, 1991 Ram W150 with a 318 4speed bull low. They're called a bull low (bo low, granny four speed, farmers 4-spd) because theyre really only built for towing heavy loads, theyre a farm tractor transmission. You should never use first unless your towing a load, start in 2nd. I dont rev it too high when I shift mine. Best tranny for offroading by far, it really delivers the torque to crawl up tricky paths.

1992 BUICK PARK AVE I WAS COASTING DOWN HILL TO A STOP SIGN AND WHEN I WENT TO GO THE TRANNY SEEMED DISENGAGED. NEITHER FWD OR REVERSE WOULD MOVE THE CAR. SEEMED RATHER SUDDEN TO BE THE TRANSMISSION...

Check the transmission fluid level, check it in park, and see if it is low,it would have to be more than a qurt low to do this, but this would be the cause,or,the fluid and filter need to be changed,If this was helpful, please rate, thank you.

My is shifting from 2 to drive back to 2 why is it doning that

Check your tranny fluid levels- if they are low your transmition will slip between gears, however if you notice any kind of free reving while its shifting (like being reved up when in park or neutral) then the hydrostatic clutches are slipping and the transmition needs repair.

Another thing you should investigate is your transmition kick down bar (it shifts the trany into a lower gear when accelerating hard to help pick up speed.

Transmission seems like it is hung in low gear and doesnt shift but at times it will shift like there is nothing wrong

try checking the transmission fluid level , low fluid levels prevent shifting , when driving different levels caused by going uphill or down, even low grades can leave the pickup pump sucking air. that would lead to perfect shifts one minute and not shifting the next.

Transsmition takes a long time to shift geers.

first thing to check is the fluid level.Warm up the engine, run through all the gears a few times and finish in neutral. With the engine still running check the trans fluid level with the trans dipstick. If it is low, this will be the problem. If needed, you add fluid through the trans dipstick tube.Hope this helps

Transmission only has 1st and reverse 98 dodge ram 1500 5.9L 4X4

If you removed the radiator, the transmission cooler lines on the bottom would be the first place to check. Wouldn't take much to get a kink in the line, and a possible cause for your shifting problems. Best of luck to you.
