1991 mb 300se. Battery drains

Battery drained. Put in new battery and checked with meter. No drain showing. Pulled one by one each fuse and tested-nothing A mechanic told me it could be a stuck relay. I do I test. Where are they?

you will need to do a test with a battery light disconnect the negative wire on the battery and connect one end of the test light to the battery and the other to the terminal with everything switched off if the test light is lit you have a draw if it is not lit then it is something else sometimes door switches and glove box switches wear out and need added lift to properly shut the open circuit down

Either the battery is not charging (alternator, regulator) or you have short circuit somewhere. I haven't seen a Volvo tho, so might be a generic problem. Wait a bit before messing with all the wires, it is pretty annoying and time-consuming.

It would seem as though you have a drain somewhere in the electrical system.

A faulty alternator can cause a battery to drain - sometimes - within minutes. It's the rectifier pack - the diodes in the back of the alternator which burn out.

Charge your battery and when parked up, disconnect the connector at the rear of the alternator. If the vehicle cranks ok the next morning you have to suspect the alternator.

If the problem persists you then obviously have a current drain somewhere else. As you have removed the fuses and it made no difference .. this suggest that the drain could be in the instrument cluster/dashboard.

The best option is to visit an auto electrician. He'll be able to identify the cause of the drain within minutes

New battery trickle charges and will start on a jump. Why is it dead again the next morning?

Unlikely cassette clock is draining the battery, but there may be other drains.
Pull all the fuses, and while the key is out, use an amp meter to measure draw though where each fuse goes....

My 2002 Chevrolet Blazer cranks like a champ the first time every time as long as I crank it every single day. But, if it sits two or more days and I do not crank it at all it is very hard to get it...

You have a short somewhere in electrical system of truck that is slowly draining battery. When battery is too low, cranking speed and voltage is too low to operate electrical system to allow fuel etc to start truck. First make sure dome light is not staying on after you close door. Sometimes a kneecap hits the dash switch that turns on domelight. Second make sure battery is FULLY charged. Have auto store check battery to see if it is fully charging. At same time they will check to see if alternator is not malfunctioning and charging correct amount. Replace as needed. If all checks out OK...Third, get an amp meter, remove negative battery cable. Attach one probe to the negative cable and other to negative post on Battery. Turn amp meter on. It should read zero. If reads anything it is showing you have short in system. With meter hooked up this way(I use radiator clamps to secure probes to post and cable) Start pulling fuses first, one at a time, then relays in fuse box to until meter goes to zero. When goes to zero you have found the circuit. Look at fuse box picture in owners manual that came with truck. Replace relay or relay connected to the circuit shown in manual. For instance if fuse you pulled to make it go to zero...says it is for wipers and windows...look at manual diagram and locate and replace relay for wiper or windows one at a time, then check amp meter to see if battery drain continues...If you can't locate source of problem you have at least identified circuit. You can get all data schematics at library from ALLDATA free....then try to track down further...if not able to do yourself take to GOOD auto shop that does electrical work. at hardware, auto parts store or Wal Mart....Red wire at least 6ft long. one Toggle switch, get inline fuse connector and a matching fuse that matches the fuse you pulled out that makes amp meter go to zero( If 5 amp, get tubular 5 amp fuse for inline connector) electrical wire connectors kit. Make two 3 ft long wires. Put connector onto both wires and screw tight onto toggle switch. Now cut one wire in half and splice inline fuse onto that wire with connectors. Next make a one prong connector for each end of wire. Carefully make it so you can plug one connector of wire into the left side of where fuse used to plug into fuse box. Then plug in other wire into right side of where fuse use to connect when plugged into fuse box. use electrical tape if need be so they cannot short across these two wires. Check with amp meter on neg cable and negative batt post to see if meter shows drain. If shows drain... simply switch toggle switch off. Meter should be at zero with toggle switch one way, then shows drain with other. Secure wires with plastic tie straps electrical tap, and duct tape the toggle switch to lower dash board area you can reach while driving. If your wipers or windows etc, aren't working with switch shutting off drain, simply turn on when needed and shut off when you park truck. Recheck with amp meter again when all secure...Good luck all!

The standard procedure is to disconnect the negative cable and use a test light or meter to measure voltage.
A test light between the battery post and ground will light up until the drain is knocked out.
You disconnect each fuse and cable until you find the drain.

Battery loses charge overnight

either you have a bad battery, dirty connections or you have a parasitic drain. go to your local parts store for a battery test .to test a parasitic drain you need a multimeter. disconnect your negative battery cable. put your meter in the amperage setting. hook one lead to the negative cable and the other lead to the negative battery terminal. make sure that the cable is DISCONNECTED from the battery or you will blow fuse in meter or blow meter. read your meter. if it is anything over .5 amps or 50mA then it will fail the test. to figure out where the drain is coming from start pulling fuses. pull a fuse and put it back before pulling another. if the readings drop below the .5a then the problem is in the circuit of the fuse you just pulled. from then on it depends which circuit it is to determine the problem.

1991 Toyota corrolla has something that drains battery while sitting in driveway. (Not radio)

Pull the fuses one at a time, until you find the circuit,causing the issue You need an Ampere Meter in series with a battery cable to do that, or it will be a long time consuming process. Most likely, something like a relay, is not timing out or going to sleep.

Battery drained every day,battery is brand new.

When it is running,put a volt meter across battery terminals. You should see 13 + volts if alternator is working. Also put an ampere meter in series with a battery cable,key off, engine off, and you should see less than 40 to 50 Mili-Amps. If more,start pulling one fuse at a time,untill you find the circuit that is draining the battery

The battery keeps going dead in my 03 z71, only thing out of place is i cannot shut off the headlights manually anymore,it's stuck in auto. Alternato is fine and so is the battery, drains iin about 7...

Well if lights are not staying on then you have a draw of power somewhere. Easy way to find out is volt meter. You take off negative cable and put one end of meter to battery post and other to wire dont let the wire touch post or anyother metal of vehicle. Then go through your fuse box and pull fuse's one at a time until you see voltage on meter drop. Meter should should a (-)negative voltage at start and get smaller when right fuse is pulled take notes and pull all one at a time and replace back in orginal spot. If you find one that really lowers the negative voltage draw on meter good chance you found where problem is. Id start by checking all interior lights first, including glovebox.

92 SUNBIRD can't find drain.

u need to check your battery power
turn off everything (car not running) and install an ammeter (use a multimeter which will give you range select capability) in series with a battery lead and then make sure everything is turned off again.. Read the meter. If there is a current drain, the meter will show it. Then you can start removing fuses one at a time to determine what circuit is causing the current drain. Inserting a meter will also resolve the question of whether it is a real drain or some anomaly in the battery.good luck.
