Your going to have to trouble shoot your system, if its a manual linkage then either its out of adjustment our your pressure plate or throwout bearing has gone out.if hydraulic i would start by checking for leaks in the system, if you cant find any try bleeding the system (i can walk you through this procedure if needed) if you bleed it and its free of air then you know for a fact its air tight and the problem is elsewhere( i listed this fix first as its free and only cost time) obviously youve assured you are full on fluid by this point. if youve tried all this and you cant get fluid to squirt out the bleeder and you are sure you dont have a leak then you need t0o replace the clutch master cylinder. you can also remove the unit and inspect it. if the boot is all torn and messed up and the fluid is black, or bubbly or if you can depress it with little effort then its most likely faulty. once you have determined that you dont have leaks, dont have air in the line and your master cylinder is working fine then you definitely have a worn out, faulty shift fork. throwout bearing( these are usually accompanied by a telltale squealing sound when depressing the clutch) either way all of these parts minus the shift fork come in a common clutch kit. it depends on the car but for gasoline motors they run anywhere from 100-250 bucks and are easy to replace. if you respond with the year make and model and can help walk you through this problem and fix it. and just to answer your general question your pressure plate is not disengaging from your clutch.

Did you bleed the system fully after changing the cylinders? Those are the two main components that cause such problems. If you bled the system out, and it still has the problem, then you most likely have a ruptured line somewhere that is allowing air into the system.

SOURCE: My Clutch won't engage into gear. Need advice!

Did you check the clutch reservoir under the hood mounted on the firewall, driver side? Make sure level is up where it should be. If it's real low, you may have to bleed the system to get the air out. If you need to add fluid, use brake fluid.

SOURCE: 2002 Hyundai Accent won't go into gear.

Probably the arm that holds the rtelease bearing in the bell housing has slipped out of place. Get someone to depress the clutch while you check the arm is not loose. If the cylinders are working then its most likely the arm is disconected. If you are lucky you may get it put back in place by looking through the inspection hole but most likely you will have to seperate the engine and gearbox. Sorry I havent better news for you.

Eric, how are you confirming whether or not the car goes into gear if you shift gears without the engine running? One way would be to put it in 1st and see if you can push the car. If you can't, it is in gear.

Another option is to roll the car slightly forward or backward (engine off) while trying to put the car in gear. Once it is in gear, then the car shouldn't move any further. However, if it goes into gear, DO NOT start the car without taking it back out of gear.

The clutch is much more likely to be the problem than the transmission.

If the clutch fluid ever ran dry, then the clutch hydraulics will need to be bled of air. Otherwise, the problem could be the clutch master cylinder, slave cylinder or throwout bearing. Since you didn't report the clutch slipping (e.g. engine revving without accelerating when in gear) it is likely not the clutch disks themselves.

check the clutch cable as it may be broken. What you have is the clutch not disengaging when you put your foot on the pedal and this indicates a slipped cable adjustment or a broken cable . If hydraulic then the system is full of air and needs bleeding or the slave cylinder and master cylinder need replacing.

When starting, clutch down 1st gear turning key truck jumps forward, will start but need to be ready to take off in gear that started in. starts fine in neutral.but won't go into gear without grinding

1st check your clutch system, that is most probably where the issue is as the gearbox rarely ever gives issues

2nd check the oil for your gear box. the oil should help the gears as they move into action or move out.

Well, it sounds like the clutch cylinder / clutch linkage is not properly adjusted or the clutch cylinder is not fully bled, or it is malfunctioning -- it's not fully depressing the pressure plate when the pedal is pushed down, therefore, the clutch is still engaged.

ok starting where you did... on the side of the transmission itself there will be a 1/2 inch socketed plug that can be undone to add gear oil there will be another on the bottom that can be used to drain the oil. for clutch master, standard brake fluid can be used and is recommended. the causes is most likely low fluid or worn out syncros in the tranny.. check the level of fluid in the clutch system and fill and bleed system at the slave cylinder. after that check fluid in the tranny. if all there is fine then i would recommend bringing it to a trans shop for diagnosis. if the syncros are going out then you will be looking to spend between 750 and 1500 to have it rebuilt or 2000+ for a new trans

Sounds like it is a clutch issue. Have the clutch plate checked or check the clutch and friction plates. I know it sounds strange but In reality we always press teh clutch all teh way in to shift. But going from 2nd to third you actually don't have to. Going from 3rd to 4th is even less of a distance. It may be a problem between the clutch and friction plates depending on when you last had them changed and adjusted.

Problems shifting, clutch feels fine.

Most likely the master cylinder. Both usually need replaced together. If one fails the other will most likely soon after. Then bleed system again.
