2005 subaru legacy i cylinder misfire

I have recently found that my car is sounding like one of the cylinders has a problem (when reving sounds like a stick in the spokes of a bike followed by a popping noise) i checked and the oil was deathly low so I filled it and still no change. My friend thought one of the "leavers" are prob. stuck so I take it to get the code scanned.... I am recieving a few codes.... 1. lCat effeciency below threshold- which i was told was prob a cat or my O2 sensor cat was just done so not that hopefully 2 another was cylinder misfire and 3. vechile speed sensor can someone help me before my wife and I loose our mind!?!

SOURCE: Cylinder 1 misfire on my subaru!!

What you should check first is the spark plug for the #1 cylinder and see if there is a white film on it this would be a sign of a coolant leak which would cause a problem with the O2 sensor

SOURCE: 2000 Subaru Outback Wagon (100K miles) with P0420 Code

I do not know for sure if this is the problem you are having, But, I have noticed that from 95 up to 2002 I have seen a lot of PO420 codes that have been just the sensor. I do not know if it was a weak sensor or just that program telling it that it is below threshold. I did notice that if the vehicles are run for a long trip at highway speed it goes out. I wish you luck and have a great day.

I have a 99 Subaru Legacy (Outback, 2.5L). The check engine light has come on and the codes indicate Cylinder 3 and Cylinder 4 misfires. The light came on about two weeks ago, and occasionally disapears...

hi the cylinder misfire codes are usually pretty specific, if you have replaced the above and it still hasnt fixed the problem try replacing the ignitor or the ecu as thats all it can be left causing the problem

THIS SOUNDS LIKE A WEAK CYLINDER ,FROM NORMAL RING AND PISTON WEAR A COMPRESSION RING COULD BE BROKEN! I WOULD JUST CHECK COMPRESSION ON ALL 4 CYLINDERS. AND LOOK FOR EXCESS BLOWBY IN THE AIR FILTER OR FROM A VALVE COVER VENT HOSE, OR OIL IN THE AIR CLEANER.

My 97 Legacy started to studder when stepping on the gas from a dead stop. It does not seem to studder at higher speeds. Do you thing the Fuel filter may need to be changed?

possible but sounds like you have a misfire occurring is your check engine light on if so this will give you a code determining which cylinder it is occurring on.i would start out with new plugs and wires especially if you know they have not been done lately

Sounds likely to be the fuel filter which is located under the hood on the left hand side close to the brake master cylinder. It is of the cartridge type, so if it has not been serviced lately, throw it away and get a new one.

Sounds like the coil is going. The crank sensor will fire the ignitor and fires 2 plugs at once. Have the coil checked first. Good luck.
